Just got back from the Archer/Nevel match in Easley. Incredible, had alot of fun. 10 ahead for $10,000 lots of side bets going. Match didn't get started 'till 8:00. The place was crammed full, seating was shoulder to shoulder and really hot and sticky in the joint. Match was played on a brunswick with tight pockets. Couldn't fit two balls between the points. Johnny wins the lag and breaks and runs the first two. Breaks the third rack and misses a ball, Larry gets to the table and tries to lag a ball but doesn't hit a rail and gives Johnny ball in hand and goes up three ahead. Long story short, Johnny gets on the hill (9 ahead) in 90 minutes. Misses a key ball and Larry finally wins a game. Up until that point, Larry had only pocketed maybe 6 balls. It's now 8 ahead with Larry breaking and he makes the 10 on the break. Now 7 ahead and Larry breaks and runs the next two to come down to 5 ahead. Larry continues to win the next two games from easy 9 ball misses by Johnny and the next game they trade balls and it's now 2 ahead. Larry breaks and misses and Johnny wins to get back to 3 ahead. Johnny wins the next to get to 4 and then they trade games a couple of times going back and forth 'till Johnny comes alive and gets it up to 5 ahead. Johnny goes on from there to get back to the hill. Final game, Johnny breaks, makes the one and scratches. Leaving a tough out. Getting from the two to the three was perilous, with the three at the opposite end tied up with the six and seven ball. After a really long look at the table, makes the two, gets kind of bad on the three, tries to play safe off the three but ends up leaving Johnny straight in on the three without any tie ups on the rest of the balls and Johnny plays brilliantly and runs out the final game to win 10 ahead in almost 5 hours flat. Larry played good but looked out of sorts, kept getting really bad rolls and missing alot of key shots and really just not getting out when he should have. Worth the trip, had fun. Hope this helped.

It only took 25 years of work (practice, action matches, tournament play, hardship, and the like) to be in a position to get that 10k in 5 hours. Pretty bad wage IMO. :shakehead:

He could lose 10k just as easily too.

Just my $0.02.

Suprnova is probably gonna end up like Nicholas Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas" now, except he's gonna do it in Greenville, SC. I can see it now, he's gonna be double fisting bottles of Vodka at Shannon's next event.

either that or he's going to go loveknife on Larry, following him around to 5.00 entry fee tourneys that Larry always snaps off (thus asserting his top of the world status against local players) and finally kills him because he believes he's sending him to a pool hall laden afterlife. After which he kill himself so he can hang from Larry's ghost nuts

IMHO 25 years of doing something you love wouldn't be that bad :P not like this match is the only $$$$ he has ever won... if you want to figure in the last 25 years one would have to figure in all the money he has won in that 25 years... I'm betting (no not literaly) it would still come out pretty close or more then what i make a year now LOL

Glad everyone like the post. Didn't want to go too long but I will add, When Johnny was up 5 ahead the second time and got to the hill, it was from a couple of break and runs and alot of errors from Larry. The pockets were really tight but Larry was missing balls outside the points. The balls that Johnny missed were just rattled and left in the hole. The match wouldn't have taken as long if hadn't been for a couple of safety errors from Johnny. Trying to park the cue ball behind a stack and not getting there was a couple of mistakes, leaving Larry to hit it or make it. And like I said, Johnny missed three nine balls that left Larry out. There is no ill will towards Larry. When he got out, he got out. Broke the balls well. But just kept getting bad rolls. It really just wasn't his night. Besides that, I really don't think he could have beat Johnny any other night anyway. Best of luck to Larry in the future, he's still on a tournament win streak if anybody didn't know.

Larry lost because he got so many bad rolls. Now where have I heard this one before?
His worst roll was when he signed up to play JA for 20G! A good choice if you're mad at your money.

that's exactly what I was thinking. Johnny has been getting the cheese for a long time now, one of the best gamblers in the history of the sport, imo.
