When we use Ustream or any other free stream service it would be handy to have a switcher that could accept two firewire inputs from the two cameras and then have a single firewire output to the computer which is doing the streaming. This would be a switching device to give more than a single camera view. It could be a 'hard' switch, no need for fancy stuff like wipe capability or other graphics.

I have yet to locate such a device. Does anyone have a source for this? I have searched large sources such as BH Photo/Video with no success. I can find it with RCA input/output, but not firewire.

We were able to get Wirecast to work but it was unstable over the long haul: http://www.telestream.net/wire-cast/overview.htm

We lucked out and found a pretty trick hardware 1394 switcher that has since been discontinued. It was over $1300 . It works great but I would be interested in seeing what other options are out there. I spent a lot of time about 18 months ago looking into this very topic I am sure things have changed.

If money was not a big concern then this is the way of the future: http://www.newtek.com/tricaster/tricaster_studio.php

This may work for you. They also do a fancy (expensive) model.
