View Full Version : Why no NYC?

I noticed you and Chris didn't go to NYC this year, did the blackout scare you guys off? :p You're right about Chris being one of the best players in the state. I try to get up there and play him about once a month. You're usually walking in when I'm leaving (the past 2 or 3 times anyway). Is Troy really moving back to Ohio?
I'll have Chris introduce us next time.

NYC is way too expensive.
they don't ever take that into concideration when they host an event there.
You have to get like 5th place to break even.
If it would have been sanctioned by the UPA I would have gone in a heartbeat.

Shawn,
I agree about the "nut" in NYC. A decent room in NYC is very expensive! but I don't understand what would have been so much better if it'd been UPA sanctioned? Do they pay heavier down the brackets?
I went to the tournament at Grand Central Station last year, only because I decided to attend the RSB tournament that Jimbo put on in CT. KUDOS to Jimbo for putting on the most enjoyable event of this type I've ever attended. Of course winning the Texas Holdem tournament put a big smile on my face, on my birthday no less! We took the train in to the city a couple of days. I'll be real honest though... They were charging spectators $60 a head to get in to the bleacher seating the final day and there were only 3 or 4 matches to see! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a nit about paying to see a tournament and usually opt to pay the extra for VIP seating when it's available. But in this case I'd left my KY Jelly at home and didn't feel like taking that dry! lol That was a UPA event! Probably my last! Well Lo and behold, the spectators were so scarce that a nice lady from ESPN invited me, Jimbo, Lou F. and Fred Agnir to fill up some of the VIP seats, right next to the players....GRATIS! We got more TV time than most of the pros in the tournament. lol
just more hot air!

I'm going to guess that he would've gone because of points, not because the tourney would be better. Even if they don't like the venue, the guys duking it out for the points are going to show up like it or not.
Most people fail to realize that very often the room advertised with the event is not the least expensive.
I have organized sporting events for an Armenian sports organization I belong to and have arranged a $10 per room per night kickback from the hotel. This is partly because of the large number of rooms that were needed but can be arranged without too much difficulty.
In other words, they quote a rate to the organizer of $89 for example, charger the renter $99, and the $10 gotes back to the organizer. This is very common everywhere.
With a little research tournament players can find a better rate especially of they are willing to go out of the way a bit.

HI SHERM.
As you know I am the #1 ranked player in the US (calender year), and johnny is only 5 points behind me .
So if it were a UPA event I would've had to gone. Expensive or not
I've got a shot at the Mosconi Cup too, which is going of the calender ranks.

At the time that post was made, yes. Shawn was the leader in the UPA calendar points for the year to date. Shawn is now ranked #2.... 15 points behind Johnny.
Who gives a shit about your player? I, like many others enjoy watching the pro's like Shawn, Johnny, Tony Robles, & all the others that have chosen to better themselves and become great tournament players instead of degenerate gamblers hoping they'll have enough money to eat tomorrow. If your player was such a great playing American player.... he would be ranked #1 or #2....You want to impress someone with your boy? Give him a hair cut, dress pants, collard shirt, and $100 to join the UPA. Once he's paid his dues on the tournament trail & made a name for himself that way... then come tell us about your boy. You don't really care about a game because if you were serious, you would've sent Shawn a PM and tried to set something up. All you really wanted to do was come on here & try to start shit & try to make Shawn look bad. All you did was make yourself look bad.

The UPA is a joke. Everyone knows this. Shawn isn't even a 20 American player. Most pro's don't play in the UPA because the money isn't there asshole. There are class "B" players in the UPA top 30. There's an average local player in the top 20 who you've never heard of. How about I play you, take your money, then kick your ass afterwards Timber?

First of all, I never claimed to be the best American player out there.
The points determin your rankings. What did I do, buy my points or earn them.
Second, Use your real name when you challenge a girl to gamble and then fight her afterwords. do you know how that just made you look?

for there to be any action, my backer is going to need to know who your putting in the box.
keep in mind that the tour rankings are based on the best tournament player the year has to offer, so my backer may not want to play a few people in the world but the majority of the people he would be happy to bet 10k+.

Yes Shawn has sponsors... both product & monetary. He got these sponsors by A) his skill level of play, B) his ability to carry himself in a professional manner.
Shawn is what people call an ambassasdor to the sport. He genuinely tries to be a good person. He's voluteered his time to help other players in their quest to get billiards into the school curriculum, he's not on drugs, he doesn't threaten to beat up women or anyone else for that matter. He's just a genuine good guy. It's not Shawn's fault that you're not as good of a person as he is.

Hey Koop! Tell me, is ESPN and the sudden death 7 ball considered nationally televised? What about the Mosconi Cup that's televised on ESPN, is that also not nationally televised? Also, have you read the current events lately where a certain model was busted doing drugs & she lost most of her sponsorship because they cared what kind of person was showcasing their product? He is a great representative to the sport. I've seen Shawn on ESPN (it was on just this week, in fact), carrying himself the same way he does at every event: with class and respect for others. Something you could learn a thing or two about. Even with your constant attacks, he doesn't lower himself to your level. With Shawn standing @ 6'4 & roughly 300 lbs... I doubt he'll act this way. He gets his rocks off by beating up women.

FYI idiot, he never made ESPN's televised 7ball event.
And to prove even further how stupid you are, the 2005 Mosconi Cup hasn't even been played, so how could it be on TV moron.
Furthermore, he never played on Mosconi team in previous years.
Next retard?
Since your a betting man , lets just bet 10k that I didn't make it on TV for the 7-ball event.
You probably can't even afford a TV.
I bet you were beat up alot as a child.
I actually feel sorry for you, and everybody on here should feel sorry for you too.
You probably can't even make a bridge, and I'll be calling MIKA to actually see if he even knows you or are you just a name dropper.

No doubt. This guys a complete tool and I would be shocked to learn that he is actually speaking for Mika.

I'll be there, but Putnam's gonna want a huge spot I'm sure because Immonen is world's above him. No spot and we'll travel

I know of six....that's just the one's that I for sure know of personally. However, I will not name them in this thread out of respect for Shawn & his sponsors. Both deserve better than to be brought down to your level.
Hey Shawn, when the nationally televised station ESPN zooms in on you at the Mosconi Cup, be sure to wave hello to our little friend here. Tell him "wish you were here???" :D
Thank you for proving my point that he hasn't been on TV yet. Mosconi Cup is in December...get your facts straight dummy

We've all proved that A) You're of a much higher class than this guy, B) You're an overall better person than this guy, and C) that he's a complete idiot that has no idea what he's talking about. I think the best thing to do at this point is completely ignore him. If he's not getting any attention, he'll eventually bore himself to tears trying to get attention & he'll go away. I say we abandon this thread for more important things like...how well you're doing in Glass City and your acceptance to the IPT and the invitational King of the Hill tourney in a few weeks. Or we can talk about your recent trip to Vegas where you beat Johnny Archer in the sudden death 7 ball match to make it to the TV rounds, or the upcoming Mosconi Cup which is the most prestigious invitation a pro player can get... or you can tell us about your participation in the Patriot cup not too long ago.... There's all kinds of POSITIVE things that I'm sure your sponsors would rather us talk about. ;)

Shawn, are you bitter cuz you averaged less than 10k per year on tour from 2000-2004? Do you need a hug?

You're obviously a newbie who has no idea who he is talking to.
If you weren't such an A-HOLE I would probably be laughing hysterically right now.
If Koop says your a newbie then your a newbie so.....

Shawn don't listen to this jerkoff, he is a bug that needs squashed. You have a great game and he could only dream of being a pimple on your a$$. I know Shawn puts alot of time in his game, his titles did not come to him by being a chump. There are alot of world beaters out there that have not been on tv. I know I am sitting amongst them at the Glass City Open. tgavin99 you are truely a troll to come on to Putnams forum and bash him. Put something in here that is of some use or get the hell out!!!!!!!!!!! C-Man

What should we do now? I know, lets gather in a circle and whack each other off.
Awesome idea let's do it and then I'll go back and try to get to Shawn again."

It's deeper than that. I'm sure he's thinking of this thread as Strickland sends him to the 1 loss side

Yes, you are a very bad person, you got to him alright. A forum bug really is going to bother him. You are very right sir. You definitely win the dipshit of the year award.

This thread is a perfect example of the kind of thing that gets someone banned from the forums and a written out set of guidelines shouldn't even be needed.
We treat fellow forum users with respect and don't go out of our way to try to get a reaction from them. This is one of the few places on the net where pro players can come and interact with the fans and this sort of behavior is the exact reason why it is to hard to get a pro player to take part in a forum like this.
As an FYI, I have spent time thinking about sponsoring a player and Shawn is on the short list of players that I think have the ability and class to warrant something like that.
