To start off with I appreciate your dedication and answers to your forum section.

I have played pool for 15 years and at one point played jam up. Knowing that I was about a ball under pro speed at one point how do you deal with lulls or dead points in improvement?

At one point I took off close to 3 years from playing pool. Being back now for 2 years playing 2 to 3 days a week I am battling with getting my stroke back. I know that dedicating more time could help, but due to constraints with life 2-3 days is all I can muster.

Basically, what I would like to know is how have you dealt with lulls in your improvement level over your years of pool playing?

To define lull or lulls----It is the flat zone or point between level of play improvements.

Thanks Scott

Dear Scott,

I just recently went thru the worst mental challenge to my level of play that I've ever had to deal with. I just had to deal with a lot of personal issues at once and it really affected the mental part of my game, but I was still able to play decent pool at times because I had developed systems to fall back on. These systems compensated for my mental lull.

For players that don't rely on systems in their pool shooting, the practice amount will naturally have to increase because your natural ability can only take you so far and if your in a lull, natural ability may not be enough.

My suggestion to help you out of these lulls is to go find somebody around your area that can help you in those areas that are most affected by your funk.
