As usual, Barry has seeded the top 32 players. In most sports tournaments (golf, tennis, football, baseball, etc.), higher seeds are rewarded by giving them byes. It looks to me like byes were randomly placed on the board. This makes no sense to me - the purpose of a seed is to give the seeded player an advantage. I see byes next to guys like David Hunt and DJ McGinley, while Gabe plays Nevel and JJ plays Gabica in the first round. I can only assume that Gabe and JJ are seeded (since they've won the Open recently). What advantage were they given for being seeded, besides not having to play each other?

You are correct that the byes were placed randomly and that sometimes the seeds get the byes first. In this case the seeding only served to separate the top 32 from one another.

Doom ... You have a valid point. Is Scott Smith the TD? I was surprised to see Gabe playing Nevel, and JJ playing Gabica the first round.
