Decided to rush and get 80% of my racks done today during my open periods from school and one hour after school. That was a bad idea, I played good break out shots, but I was only thinking about getting done fast.

I"m not here to compare myself to other AZers. I"m here to beat myself.
Last year I got a 488, because I suck, then, not now.
I am soooo gonna kick my ass.
Oh yeah, thats right, I'm gonna make me my B ITCH!

I feel very fortunate to have won this match. My opponent was a much better player then I had given him credit for. Fought me every step of the way, but took his beating like a man.
Hell of a nice guy too. We shot this match nonstop, start to finish. He bought all the beer and made sure I never ran out.
I just read in hear about how long it takes to shoot a session.
I didn't set out todo this all at once, it just worked out that way. I was waiting up for my wife who was on a road trip and ran into problems. So there were many phone calls mixed in here as well as a frozen pizza, and way to many 1 and 2 shot racks. It took me 6.5 to 7 hours.

I will give it a shot.

Post challenge Note: Well, I gave it a shot. As I can see (and you can as well), my game needs quite a bit of work. My resolution for the upcoming year is to play more so I can crawl out of the cellar. Real tough resolution, huh.

Comments on the Q Skill Challenge - Man, I gave away a lot of points trying to secure position on the first of the last five balls. Often, I over-thought my shots leading up to them and wound up in really bad places (this is what separates me from you good players). This challenge will teach one much in patience. I thought it was wonderful to try. Hopefully, folks will at least try it out (even if they do not post scores - however it would be great if they did). Maybe, next year I will even do better.

Happy New Year to all of my fellow AZBers! Good Luck to all participating in the Derby City event(s).

Notes from session #1- It is what it is.

Notes from session #2- I started out really well, but two bangers came in and took a table beside me and were about as disruptive as could be. They jumped balls off the table twice, and both times they hit me. I was pretty pissed by the second time. Needless to say it took me out of my groove, but I got back on track. Sadly I had to settle for a lower score than I had anticipated.

Notes from session #3- MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. In all honesty I debated whether or not to post this score, I was concerned that I would get called bs on it, but at the end of the day, I know I ran it so that's all that matters.

Notes from Session #4- Started strong but lost concentration down the home stretch. On friday I'll have my last entry, heres hoping for another 200.

Notes from Session #5- I sure put this one off for a while. I had basically forgoten about it until later in the day when I had been playing for about 5 hours already. I was pretty tired while playing, but I did alright. Don't let the score fool you I'm no pro. I was only playing sessions when I had warmed up and I started once I was playing well, that's how you get consistently good scores.

Session #1 = 20, 20, 12, 20, 7, 10, 18, 20, 20, 20 = 167 - Not really Satisfied with my first session. Got Happy go lucky Missed a easy shot and forgot to think about my last five balls.
Session #2 = 20, 20, 20, 20, 18, 14, 20, 20, 19, 20 = 191 - My 18, and 19 were due to jumping the cueball off the table on the break, and choosing one of the 3 options. But better then the first session.
Session #3 = 20, 20, 20, 12, 5, 20, 18, 16, 20, 12 = 163 :(
Session #4 = 20, 18, 20, 12, 20, 20, 14, 20, 20, 20 = 184 :o
Session #5 = 19, 6, 16, 20, 20, 20, 8, 20, 10, 20 = 159 My Six(6) was from the ball being pocketed and coming back out, sheesh but clearly nothing i could do about that. Happy with the rest of the outcome, sorry for it taking too long as i had my table all torn apart for my new equipment from Christmas. The funny thing was my Simonis cloth just came in this past Saturday, and it was ordered before Xmas but they shipped it to somewhere in Florida it was a big ol mix up.

I must confess this is a bit harder than I first thought it would be.:(

There were also some hills and valleys, but nice to see the misses come down on paper and see what effect they can have. as I said above, I may add this to my practice routine. Several key shots and couple of last two balls on the table misses. Some poor shot selection as well. I think this will help my 8-ball game though, as it needs all the help it can get. .

I just figured I should toot my horn. I noticed that I am in the lead now after four sessions with 707 points. However Conartist is right behind me with 705 points  . The fifth and last session will be interesting.

Nevertheless I expect there to be a few more heavy hitters yet to participate, so it will be interesting what scores will be put up.

I need to score at least 193 to get my target final score of 900.

EDIT= Scratch that, I did not notice Djkx1's score of 734. That would me make me currently in 2nd.

That first set killed my chances of beating last year's round. Oh well, it was fun as always. I think the cameras, lights, and the crowds got to me this year. ;) Oh, right! No excuses...I guess I just played better last year. :D

Hello all. As you can see, this is my first post here. Been lurking for a while. Started trying the Q-skill thing about three years ago when I started playing a bit. Too much moving around has kept me from doing much (as you will soon see from my pitiful scores). I'm trying to get serious now, thinking about a league and looking at all of the pretty cues.

So it is time to show my shame in public....

Jeez, I didn't think it would be this bad....well, on the bright side, it shouldn't be too hard to improve on this score next year.

TWEEEEEEEEEEET ! We may have an infraction here. In post #3 you are shooting with a Dufferin cue, now you are using a low end McDermott ? This is highly suspicious ... we must nip this in the bud ... next you'll be out there trying to break records with a cuetech or one of those titanium cues I've been eyeing up at Walmart ... so what happened, did you Earl the Dufferin and think that entitled you to a do-over or what ?

Dave

PS Good on ya Hal, this is good practice !

I just thought I'd play again for the heck of it. When my new Phillippi arrives, I might even do it again. If I play each rack slow and take my time, I have no doubt that I can average near 600. My problem is that I play fast and simply miss shots.

Even when I play slow it's probably not slow enough. A session takes me a little less than an hour. How does this compare with everyone else?

I normally play fast as well, sometimes really fast. For the DM I took alot of time on each shot, even though I was playing a loose table.
What Im surprised about is all the perfect rack scores posted in this thread...... even when there is talk of misses.....

Since I'm lucky to make four or five balls a rack, I can play this out quite a bit faster....mixed blessing though. :o

Jeff,
I think we've said that players have until after DCC; so you may want to wait until Monday to compile. Thanks for the help.

Do I have until tomorrow? League party at Amsterdam Billiards tonight and there is no way I could focus on a session of Q-Skills.

Willie, you'll be proud of me for knowing that I joined the straight pool league this season. I'm getting more and more infatuated with the game at a worryingly fast pace.

Hal after my first year of this Challenge i simply fell in love with the game and use it as a daily practice. I love to do drills and try to perfect them and this game is a great challenge to put out all 20's and have yet to do it. I find that a session take me about an hour myself a little bit longer is a great session for me as i find myself really looking and determining my layout of the table to get a 20.

I think I did it wrong. I didn't separate it in 5 sessions of 10 racks. I did in one session of 50 racks:eek: now wonder why it took 3 hours.

score was 481.

Somehow this whole thing escaped my notice when it was going on, but the recent "rate my game" thread has aroused my interest. I wonder if WBM will accept this as the first reported score for the 2008 DCC?

Getting close to time to start catching up with the old professor, isn't it ? No ? OK, I'll wait till October, but then I'm starting to practice and save my empty beer bottles for refunds so I can afford to level the table .... excuse me now, I have to go drink :)

Well Dave, it's October. While I haven't done the hopkins qskills game since august When I used the format to plan an event for the CBS summer games "a work event" and was called all sorts of nasty names including ringer and hustler. They even presented me with a certificate at the end of the summer games crediting me for the most people hustled in one day.

I'm excited for this year, I hope to improve on my score from last year where even I annihilated Breakup. :D :D :D
