Definitely not a Tad. Not his signature rings and not Delrin buttplate.
Pretty cheesy he's using a receipt from Best Billiards on a cue sold by Robert Wong there.

The receipt was for a MPLE cue which sold for $1245.

In 94 RICK L. and the crew would have sold a 4 pt.TAD with veneers and inlays for 25 hun to friends:)

Some crooks are VERY, VERY dumb....

Good call.
$1250, that would have been a Tad players' cue with the big pin and Martin style collars or plane maple ss cue.
Joey~Missed the $75 TS sneakies at BB and passed on Hagan Cues~

I Tried Explaining That To The Seller This Morning On The Phone.... He Didn't Want To Listen. He Said "i Have The Receipt, It's A Tad" That Was The End Of The Conversation, Then He Ended The Auction Cause He Sold It For 1600 To A Friend Of Ted Harris.

I have a receipt for a Cuetec too.
Tad's have no serial numbers.
If Ted is a friend, he better tell that guy not to pay for the cue.
I think it's Prather.

I JUST GOT ANOTHER PHONE CALL FROM THE SELLER.... TELLING ME HE HAS VERIFIED THE CUE WITH TAD. HE ALSO TOLD ME TO LOOK AT THIS LINK, IT WOULD PROVE THAT TAD DID THOSE RINGS AND INLAYS. http://www.sl-prokeys.com/gold/goldcrown.htm

AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT DOESN'T SEE THE SIMILARITIES?

I'M ALSO CONFUSED, BECAUSE HE SAYS HE'S SURE IT'S A TAD BECAUSE HE HAD IT VERIFIED, BUT HE STILL WANTS TO KNOW WHO I THINK MADE IT.... THAT'S ODD TO ME. IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS, WHY DOES IT MATTER WHAT I THINK?

ANYBODY HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR TAD CUES? I'D LOVE HIS REPLY TO AN E-MAIL WITH PICTURES.

P.S. I DON'T THINK THE SELLER IS A CROOK, JUST MISINFORMED.

I'm 99.99% sure its not a Tad. Tad has rarely if ever deviated from certain design and construction elements. Out here in Tadville, we see lots of Tad cues of all vintages.

I AM THE BUYER. just wondering if anyone else looking at blue book or has owned a szam hoppe can give any input? all help is appreciated. by the way i have been signed up for awhile just unable to post. got activated a couple of days ago. i have bought a few things from AZ members when they went to ebay or found a phone # in another post 1 of them being SHAMADAM. we have spoken numerous times very helpful & a great guy i bought his gilbert fast shipping and many conversations since. he has tried to help me with other purchases as well since i could not post.also bought a southwest on here by phone, again fast shipping & great deal. i will have some cues for sale in the near future 1 of them being TONY CHOHANS T-REX cue by bobby hunter but thats another story. again any help identifying this cue is greatly appreciated.

As stated before.....the only thing that means anything is if Barry says it is a Boti.....who cares what anyone else says? Therefore, I would think contacting Barry would be the proper course of action instead of fishing for guys you dont know on a forum to confirm or deny what it is you bought.

YOU KNEW WHAT IT WAS BEFORE YOU BOUGHT IT.... THAT'S WHY YOU BOUGHT IT.

SAME REASON I TOLD THE SELLER IT WASN'T A TAD.

the reason i asked for opinions is if it is not a boti then i need to find out what it is. obviously barry will be the one to verify boti or not. but it doesnt hurt to hear other opinions in case it is not.

Not a Tad, probably Szam or Mottey....need to see a little more.

Find it interesting how a private buyer can pick up something like this for a great buy and eveyone is all congratulations and the like, but if a dealer would have gotten his hands on it, then he's a crook and the guy got shafted.....still trying to make sense of that ??

Sean (wishing I'd have seen this one early) :)

According to an addition made to the eBay auction listing, it was stated that this particular cue was made in the late 70's to early 80's. I was just wondering if Barry was making cues that early in his career, or if the buyer was saying it might be a Gus.

Congrats! The seller really did not do his homework and it should be a lesson to everyone here what happens when you don't do your homework.

You did take a risk, and in this case, it paid off. I've taken a few of my own and overall I've come out pretty good myself.

Wow. Great find for you. I still don't understand why the seller changed the description and stated it was made in late 79 to early 80's. That might have cost him thousands--who knows?

Marcus, how positive were you it was a Szam, and what about this cue tipped you off?

cueaddicts
02-02-2008, 02:14 PM
I was 85-90% sure it was a Barry after seeing the closed auction link. The only other real possibility might have been an early Mottey. Seller had everything wrong on this cue and it did end up costing him....severely. If I had seen this before it was sold, I would have tried to make a play on it, too. Congrats to the buyer....you have a cue worth several thousand for probably only the "several hundred" you might have paid. Can't beat that !!

100% SURE WHAT IT WAS. TRIED TO BUY IT, AS SOON AS I SAW THE AUCTION.

THERE ARE JUST CERTAIN THINGS TO LOOK FOR. IN PICS IT'S TOUGH, BUT I CAN USUALLY SEE ENOUGH TO BE RELATIVELY SURE. WHAT I LOOK FOR THOUGH, IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I'M GOING TO ELABORATE ON. I'M SORRY, AND I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A JERK, I JUST DON'T SHARE THAT INFO.

P.S. ON THIS ONE THE ID WAS REALLY EASY. I HAD SEEN THIS CUE BEFORE.

Recently, I was selling a item on eBay, I have a rating score of 158, with 100% positive feedback, accordingly. I receive an email from a very well known-reputable user-dealer here saying that my item is not worth anything and makes a few statements about it here and next thing I know all of my ebayers are asking me to retract there bids. I ended up selling the cue anyways outside of ebay. The same forum member attempts to reach the buyer and tell him to get his money back, that the cue is worth nothing, etc.

Lastly, I receive an email from the same person, who degraded my cue on AZ, which effected eBay, and had the audacity to contact the buyer through numerous connections and tell him to not purchase the cue.....its a fake....it is old taiwanese, etc. Now this is where it gets even worse, adding insult to injury, the azer emails me and tells me to refund the guy his money, that he can paypal me $x000.00 dollars.

I don't know if that's right, but to me, this is called low-down dirty business, I could paypal the original buyer his money back and sell the cue for $1000.00 more, but I won't because I already sold the cue and my word is my word.

Damien Dominicis

Wonder if this AZ dealer he spoke of knew it was a highly valuable cue the entire time, and therefore tried to push all the other bidders out? Is there a cuemaker in Taiwan named Szamboti:)

THAT'S A GOOFY QUESTION.

WHY WOULD THE DEALER BE TRYING TO BUY IT, IF HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS.

I FEEL A LITTLE BAD FOR THE SELLER, BECAUSE I CALLED AND MADE AN OFFER. TOLD HIM IT WASN'T A TAD, BUT REFUSED TO TELL HIM WHAT IT WAS. BUT I CAN SAY, I NEVER TOLD HIM IT WASN'T WORTH ANYTHING. I JUST TOLD HIM I WOULD BUY IT, AND THAT WAS THE END OF IT.

I DON'T MIND MAKING A SCORE, BUT I WOULDN'T TELL THE GUY IT WAS WORTHLESS AND THEN TRY TO BUY IT.

IT SUCKS THAT HE WON'T TELL US WHO SAID DEALER IS.

HUMOR IS TOUGH TO CONVEY ON A FORUM.

AS FAR AS THE THREAD ABOVE GOES, I THOUGHT BUSHKA, BUT THE POINT INLAYS LOOKED WRONG. I'M GONNA ASK JOE WHAT HE THOUGHT AT THE TIME, AND SEE WHAT HE SAYS.
