I can't believe Luat won....Alcaide really deserved to win the match, he played much better. All it took was a few bad rolls for Alcaide and Luat took the heartpounding victory.

I really, really, really hope that Luat wins the whole tournament. The reason why, is because I just can't stand to see him dog it again. It's really heartbreaking for me to watch him get to close to winning a big one but he always comes short, it seems that his nerves get the best of him. His nerves were obviously showing, because he missed some shots real badly this match, that you would figure he could make 9 out of 10 times. I just hope Luat's confidence soars and he holds himself together. He has been around so long, I think he deserves a big title. Go Luat!!!
 
I forgot to add, I think I caught Jerry Forsythe calling him 'Al Qaida' instead of Alcaide on about three separate occasions. LOL
 
Luat did choke against Archer in the old world 9-ball back the 90's.
The next year he beat Varner.
He can shoot but does cough it up.

What I mean is that Luat has yet to win a World Championship or a UsOpen, hell even in the Derby City when he stopped Efren from getting the all-around, he went and dogged his brains out he next round. I'm not judjing him, it's just that I can't stand to see him do that to himself anymore. The Luat/Alcaide match was almost painful to watch at the end, because Luat just missed so many balls and made so many mistakes. Yes he made a fantastic backwards cut on the one and ran out, but he had made enough mistakes to lose the match already, but he lucked out on a few of them, leaving Alcaide (who was almost playing flawless) snookered.

I have an Accu-stats video of Archer/Reyes at one of the Reno Sands Regency Open tournaments....I think it was semi-finals and between racks, they showed Luat/Strickland in their match at the adjacent table....Luat on the hill 10-9 and shooting a pretty simple nine ball....and my God, he missed!
As I recall, Earl made a couple of fantastic shots to win the next two games and the match.....it was tragic......
 
I often wondered who the 2nd best Filipino was after Reyes, Luat or Parica. Both have had their moments, but I'll remember both for also having so many 2nd place finishes in the US Open & other big tournaments.
One thing is for sure, I don't see them having much dog in them with this many high finishes in such elite fields. Both are very gifted players.

I just thought about the same match. Luat missed and Earl broke the hill-hill rack and had a nasty 1-ball which he banked amazingly and played safe on the 2. Luat kicked Earl safe and Earl played a brilliant long jump combination jumping with his whole cue and ran out the decider.

Luat seems to have the tendency to fold under severe pressure. Would've been more interesting to see Alcaide go through to see if he could've advanced to the finals...

I think more seasoned Ralf will win the title to the dismay of the local partisan crowd.
