Another Pale Male Story

Way before the babies leave the nest, the hawk parents stop spoon feeding them- they just drop off food in the nest and let the kids tear it up and eat. So anyway, years back on the maiden flight, or one shortly thereafter, one of the kids smashed right into a building and broke off his beak-the top part.

Pale Male has to feed the kids the first 4-5 weeks or so after they leave the nest and in the process teaches them how to hunt. So he drops off half a pigeon in front of ‘No Beak’ the first time -No Beak looks at the carcass and back at PM and never even tries to eat it-He knows he cant. Within seconds Pale Male began biting off little pieces and fed him like a baby and continued doing so each and every day for near thirty days until the beak grew back and No-Beak could eat on his own.

It may have been the first time in the history of RedTails that a fledgling had his beak broken off immediately. In the wild they just don’t run into trees like they might a reflective building. Still within seconds Pale Male sized up the situation and did exactly the right thing and continued to do so as i said every day until the beak grew back in .
