I love the grating to keep the monkeys out of your playground.

    My new cue lathe

For those of you that are asking, I'm over 1K in purchased components. That's not counting the machining of the extrusion(s), dovetail, custom motor mount plate, and bearing holders. I didn't save anything over what is already available out there. Just my twist on things to fill what I wanted.

    My new cue lathe

I selecting components then modeled them so I could play with the puzzle. 8020 has a lot of stock components but I still needed quite a bit of custom machining to get what I wanted. One thing I would change is going with a hard anodized (gray) dovetail instead of the black anodized. I'm going...

    My new cue lathe

Decided to build myself a 2nd lathe. Below was my criteria going in. Mission accomplished. Must be portable. Tired of going to my basement in the summer to do a tip when it’s a beautiful day outside. Standing height 45”. I have two Lyon work tables. One inside and one outside...

Cue issues refunds how long should you wait??????

If the tip is coming off the table, are you rolling the cue with the shaft attached to the butt? Sounds like the joint may need re facing? Roll the butt by itself and see what you get. Maybe the wrap is jacking it up. Roll the shafts by themselves and see what you get. Could be many...

    First cue tip install

Very nice work WildWing. I used to do mine by hand in similar fashion before I got lazy and bought my first lathe. Couple other tips: (no pun intended) Sand the back of the tip, and end of ferrule with 80 grit. Be careful not to cone the end of your cue! Super glue GEL. Less is more...

Cue Building Equipment, Tools, Gizmos Cost

Joe's advise is the route I took 11 years ago and I'm still driving. Consider the repair work as a free education. I've now build around 90 cues using only my deluxe and my home grown CNC that I got about 2K in. Get the Deluxe with the back chuck and add the bed extension for bar cues. This...

    Black ferrule

Even if the cue is junk now doesn't mean it needs to stay junk. A good ferrule and tip will make a world of difference. Plus it will give you valuable information if you decide to work on a cue worth fixing. First thing I noticed on your plastic ferrule is it is already finished to Ø13mm...

Sanding Mandrel preorder and giveaway! Better hurry or you'll miss it!

I was under the impression that 4140 is normally only hardened up to 40 RC, if hardened at all from its normal 20RC state? It's a great steel for fast machining production part nests and such but I would rather suggest an A2 if you want to bring them up to 60RC. jmo.

How thick is it? Also how consistent is the thickness? Looks great.

If you like a little ivory in a cue

That is just fricken ridiculous. Matching the inlay angles perfectly with the already completed veneered points angle is over the top in my book. Awesome.

Custom cue from a local cue maker in Northern Illinois

Jeez I'm on here all the time and I've never searched for my own stuff. LOL. Yes that is a Schmelke blank. I order them with the point crotch higher than normal to cut in half for jump breaks. That one was a special request from a teammate. Bocote and maple. Hope you still like the cue.

    105 freaking degrees here!

105º. I thought you were talking about a funky cue index. Can't wait to see it. 46º here right now.

Having problems separating joint protectors after finishing

No mater what grain you are using, sand lengthwise with the grain to remove the scratches before stepping up a grit. Anything over 440 is overkill.

    Holding things headstock

I like to use a cigarette rolling paper in my front headstock with light pressure when doing tips and ferrule work. I use 1/16" thick silicone rubber strip in my back 3-jaw to grip the shaft or cue tight so it doesn't slide back. I rarely use collets with this setup.
