Why different shaft diameters for different games?

Thick cues are stiffer than thinner cues and so cause more ‘deflection’ of the ball off its straight path when hit to the side of cente . Carbon fibre in the shaft allows the cue to give way - be weaker - when hit off center reducing ball deflection. Deflection from shooting lower than...

Why different shaft diameters for different games?

Thin cues lack the stiffness to get maximum draw on the cue ball if shot from 8 feet away.

    Valley 1-piece cues any good?

Thanks all. I've written to Varner Cues. The ferrules of the Dufferins use to be fibre - no longer. See the shiny broken ferrule of my recent purchase?

    Valley 1-piece cues any good?

I'm just returning Dufferin 1-piece HiRun cues because half of the new cues I put out for house use have broken ferrules after two months. When I got into business 42 years ago I was told that Dufferin was the largest maker of cues in the world - primarily the HiRun. Are Valley Supreme cues...

Best Tables for being moved, replaced and leveled easily

Peacock Billiards uses four modified auto wheel dollies to move even 3-piece 9’ tables around the poolhall when making layout changes. Jack up one end, 2 dollies under; ditto other end. Push it into position and let it down. Re-level just under the legs with round rubber shims 1/32” - 1/4”...

    Need Help Identifying Table Manufacturer

It is likely a Trafalgar model by World of Leisure. I only sold the one to my lawyer in 1992. I sold many Lord Ns over two decades, several were 10’ snooker. The proportions were different than the Lord Nelson - looked taller, but wasn’t. My customers are still playing on the 9’ Lord Nelson I...

    Online Auction: Janice Joplin’s 1920s-Era Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. 9’ Table

Big Mama Thornton (sp?) was the source of her style. When a wise friend heard her first album in 1967 he said, "She will kill herself singing like that." She couldn't be much of a player with a bridge like that. Her pool room looks like an unfinished garage. Was the table in an unheated room...

Do wives or husbands pick red cloth?

To recycle a comment on the same question: "Red cloth would probably look good in an old west whorehouse." Very apt. Part of what the lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows, in one-night cheap hotels pay for is time spent before and after in luxury surroundings. In Ulysses - Dublin...

Did Jesus play pool? Who did he play? What speed? What was his strongest game?

Shakespeare has billiards in the time of Anthony & Cleopatra: "Let's to billiards: come, Charmian."

    Old pool table cloth

The body of Mary Queen of Scots was put on her billiard table, then the cloth was cut off and wrapped her body. Don't know if the cloth was in good condition before that.

50 shot video tour of Peacock Billiards

My place is in the center of downtown, so I get a mostly young crowd of couples. Real players only makeup 5%-10% of my customers. If you can't afford the cost, I couldn't make a living, so do something else. The place is doing very, very well with these prices, thank you.
