Results of the New Viking Cue Clearcoat using Meguiar's # 83 polish !!!

Great news !!!

Regarding my earlier thread about the new Clearcoats Viking is using now and not having successful results using a machine polish such as "finesse- it II" I was instructed by Viking to use Meguire's and that should solve the problem...

The results: IT WORKED !!!! but you have to buff at high speed 1000-1500 rpm with MINIMAL pressure and this will restore the clear coats shine after wetsanding is used to buff out scratches !

So for those of you who were curious.... I told you I would let you know as soon as I got that cue back into my possession and tested it myself !

Was it this #7? I use it, and, then, the NXT. Makes it so slick, my caps will Squirt out of the polishing Cloth if not careful..
Happen to me. The Cue Cap Squirted Out and hit the chair and screw-up the corner where it hit.:(
After #2000 Wet sanding, I'm missing a step because the Meguire's #7 didn't get the Finest lines out and can't get the Super Crystal Clear Surface like you Cuemakers get..
What's that Step in between that I'm Missing??

Have You ever tried Scratch "X"? I use a few different brands of compounds leading up to that point, but I have had some luck getting the fine stuff out with It.

Yep that's It.;) Keep in mind I use other stuff before getting to this point, so I'm not so sure It would take out anything to heavy, but I finish up with It sometimes, and It seems to work pretty well for that. By the time I get to using It, I already have the haze polished off, and any heavier scratches or swirls are removed though. It's easy to find too, I find It at most part stores like autozone. When I went down to buy some dupont clear, they had all kinds of different polishes and compounds, some that I have never heard of, but that was at a industrial paint bussiness. I'm gonna start trying some of those products out next.

Come on Eddie, where are the before and after pics? No merit without pics! I use the 3m stuff and just gotta see what your stuff looks like as the final product!

Some of these can only be purchased at Automotive Paint stores

Since most of us know what a "hazy" finish looks vs. a "crystal clear" finish I figured that would be a little insulting.....

However if you like I can go into my shop and wetsand a cue then shoot a pic then buff it out and shoot another one for you if you like ! :D

Eddie, to me to be a cue maker if your finished product doesn't compliment all other phases of the construction it's kinda like pissing in the wind. My finishes are pretty darn good, thanks to Billy Webb, Jerry price and some others who put me on the right track.

The products are not really that expense when you consider how you want to present yourself, I mean the finish is the first thing some one sees, and first impressions are lasting!!!

I guess what I was trying to convey is that seems to be alot of "extra" polishes when considering myself and a close friend of mine who is international with his cuemaking uses finesse-it II and we have wonderful results as well as me just buying one of meguires polishes and acheiving the same thing with that VIKING UV clearcoat problem I was having buffin out with other polishes....

I wasn't insulting you in any way shape or form... just actually surprised at the excessiveness of the endeavor that' all !

But as long as it works for you than that IS what counts !

Well you could view this link and it will show my finishes if it helps... although you really cant see the depth of the finish due to the lousy lighting....

I use professional automotive 2-part urethanes, apply it with a good gun between 45-50psi with several coats and a few applications.....

3m's finess-it II works well with them.... the key is surface prep and how you buff it out more than anything else !

Eddie, I am sorry if my response sounded like I was insulted, because I certainly was not. Eddie my finishes are so Crystal clear that any defect in the wood or other materials will jump out at you. In addition the way I prepare the woods surface before application, my finishes have a 3D-Wet look to them do to the extra time I take polishing and buffing the cue. While I may be a hack / newbie cue maker:D , But my finishes are as good as any you will see, I'm kinda like a Pimp and His Cadillac, he may live in a trailer, but his car will shine will like the Sun.:D

Oh and by the way, those polishes in the order I listed them are what Automotive painters use for High End Finish work that costs many thousands of dollars.;)

I can definitley appreciate you attention to detail and quality of your finishes regardless of how long you have been doing this, you are off to a great start !!!

besides 10yrs from now I can only imagine what you cue quality is going to be like if you already have your finishes perfected !!!

It took me over 8 yrs of struggling with hit and misses to finally make my clearcoats perfect and the true test of a competent finish is a solid wrapless ebony color cue becasue that will show every single imperfection available... and when you can perfect a crystal clear finish on that, you have arrived my friend !!!

And from the sound of it I'm sure you have zero problem acheiving optimum results with that one !

when i started i went down to my buddies car detail shop and he gave me some heavy cue,some buff lite,and some polish that he had custom mixed from Ardex and they work great.i rarely use the heavy cut.

Eddie, I have different techniques I us on surface preparation for different woods. I have no problem working with Ebony because of the way I prepare the cues surface before finish application. However, I am not really an Gabon Ebony Fan, because when properly finished Crystal clear it almost looks like something other than wood. I prefer highly figured woods, and I will use what some one wants, but I prefer Macaser Ebony that is highly figured.
