Women of the IPT tour, thoughts?

Honestly does anyone think Fisher, Corr or Jones will be in the top 75?

I think they'll do fine. I hope they have fun. Will anyone really be surprised if Allison Fisher was ranked 75th in the first year? I smell V-Cash.

Celtic,

Again you are speculating. Accustats has PROVED that the breaker does not win most of the time, contrary to popular belief. God, you are insufferable. You want to bet on something? Let's let someone do a test where they break 1000 times in eight ball using a Sardo rack and take a picture of the layout AFTER the break. I will bet you that more than 50% of the time there will not be a clear runout available without issues. We can let an independent jury decide whether the layout is easily runnable or not, easily being from a PROFESSIONAL perspective. Of course this is rhetorical but I hope that you get the point. ON an anecdotal level I break twice as hard as Cheyenne Pete, I squat the cueball in the middle of the table, balls fly everywhere and either I don't make any OR there are clusters that make the runnout difficult. Pete breaks softly and the balls open up like a lotus for him to enjoy at leisure. I could give you plenty of other such examples from my 20+ years of playing at a shortstop level and being fortunate enough to befriend many pro players but it would be wasted. I am just happy that you NOW seem to agree that the top women indeed have a good chance to remain on tour.

John

Sometimes breaking the balls softer makes you balls on the break, and harder speeds dont. I'm talking about 9-ball. Look at how well Corey Deuel manipulated the break shot. A 15-ball rack is much different than 9-ball. A person with a monster break is going to make balls on the break much more often than a person with a weak break. The harder breaks gives you those extra couple of rolls for a ball to find it's way to a hole. With the Sardo Rack in use players are going to find the right break spot and speed for that particular table and get consistent results. If a table is breaking dry for an average break speed, the stronger breaks will prevail.

By saying they will do fine, what place do you put Allison, Karen, Kelly or LJJ?

I think this is one of the more interesting parts of the tour, I see people saying above this below that, and want odds etc..maybe we could just put down what place they will be in before next years King of the Hill, no betting just have it posted and see what happens, waht is everyones predictions?

If I had to say I would say no women will make it into the top half (75) Overall I do think Allison will lead the pack of women and LJJ will surprise many people. So IMO the highest any women will place for the year is 77th and in any single 150 field tournament will be 35th IMHO.

I'll go with 77th place for Allison and Corr not far behind at 80th with LJJ 87th before next years King of the Hill which puts around 50 guys ranked lower. and I'll say only 5 women make the cut above 100.

And yeah I don't want to bet either, I never gamble on anything anyway, just think it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks, and how far apart we are. I'll stick my neck out and make place predictions, because I'm really interested to see just how right or far off I will be, And I hope the women do great, It would be nice to see someone surprise me and be higher, but I'll stick with this.

Cool! I am beating 3 people! Would they happen to be 3 of the other 7 women you didn't rank? FYI, I have beaten Loree Jon, and Monica Webb (twice), and gone 7-7 with Sarah E. until I miscued on the 7 and never got back to the table. And I played 15 years of 8 ball before I learned 9 ball. Maybe that may bump me up to 146th? lol

Don't feel lonely Linda..... after all, I'm an "ole has washed up has been" that must be even further down the list!

I just want to get out there and play my best and you know what..??? If I wind up 150th, so what? I came, I saw, I gave my best, I was part of the best thing (potentially) to happen to pool and hopefully had the time of my life!

If I don't wind up 150th.... well, hopefully I'll get to retain my tour card....more than likely will have at least met expenses and got 1 year of the best pool that I could ever hope to have and oh, had my one ppol wish granted....... to finally be back playing alongside the men. NOT because I am a "women play equal with men" sign carrier but because that was really the last time that I actually ENJOYED playing professional pool!!!! Back when the women and men played together (alongside each other) it was exciting, we had opportunities to learn from the men (and they from us!), I enjoyed it alot.

My point is... (I guess) that I'm excited and getting ready. Fast or famine, make it or break it, fair well or fail..... I'm going to try my best and enjoy being a part of this experience. My only hope is that when qualifying opens up next year, my husband gets his chance!

Good Luck to you and I'll see ya in Orlando!!!!

Tammie,

I just wanted to say that I was excited to see you on that list. I know that many may not know you, but you play some of the best 8 ball I have seen ANYONE play. I am so impressed with your game and discipline. More than any other woman, I will be sweating your matches the most. You fine tune that big table stroke, and you will be above most. You have as much knowledge as anyone.

Are you serious? Washed up has-been? You have won every female title in amateur cuesports! You were so smart to quit the tour and clean up at BCA, etc. Your grit and determination and skills make you a fearsome opponent and I do respect your game. I have not seen the Japanese gal play but read Jackie's bio, so I don't really think any of us are total idiots with a cue (especially after watching Mika and Ismael's match at the US Open!) and like you, I am savoring every moment of this beautiful experience. I will be chronicling my experiences in "On the Wire'. Watch for the interview with Kevin in there too next month. Can't wait to see you in Nov. and hang out.

Furthermore, 8 ball isn't necessarily a game of run'em out billiards.

Have you watched men pros play 8ball? It most definitely is a run-out game for them.

5-6 years ago in Taiwan (highschool days for me) I remember the PA there holding an 8ball leg of the tour, and they were playing on very tough equipment. The overwhelming consensus (and the reason they dropped it after one year) is because the game was less challenging to the pros than 9 ball. Break and runs were routine; pretty much the player that sank a ball on the break won that game, otherwise the incoming player wins.

Applause

It will be interesting to see how the women adjust to not getting applause for every 3 foot straight in shot - that is so demeaning I cant believe ESPN allows it. Its pathetic.

I still maintain that most women couldn't beat most road players let alone the pro's. Well see.

I completely agree with you. As far as Tammie goes though, she is has got more of a head for 8 ball then any other woman I have seen, and many men. I wonder what her straight pool experience is. I just think she might be suprising is all.

That's my sentiments too, though unlike you I don't think we'll find out...not with 8-ball.

-Roger (put Allison and Karen on the Taiwanese tour, and then we'll really find out)

Tina, thanks!

I was very excited to have made the list and WILL be working hard between now and then.... feel like I just made the switch from big tables to bar tables and then now.... here I go back again..... Thanks for the words of encouragement. I see that you have been pretty successful lately as well. That was a nice article just recently.

Good luck and thanks again!

Cool thoughts! Yes, I am particularly interested in getting a look at a lot of the newer women (or should I just say those I'm not familiar with!). I'm hearing lots of great things about them and think many will be surprised. Glad to hear that you'll be doing the "On the Wire" articles.... I always like those type of interviews and "reality" pool stories......

Hopefully, we'll be seeing a lot of each other!

Okay... I can't resist. I usually don't succumb to these types of posts... however, I feel I must.

Oh hell.... I'm not gonna go there. I once heard a saying that should sum up why: You should never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but HE likes it!

Did I say that?

This does not happen during every match of the women's tournament. It is only done for the tv matches because it's encouraged by ESPN to generate excitement. I had never been to a women's tournament nor a tv match until I went to the BCA this yr. I found it highly annoying but at the same time, I understand the concept. ESPN is targeting an audience larger than pro pool players. People who know pool & are in the pool world understand the difference between hard shots & easy shots. Joe Schmo sitting at home doesn't have that knowledge. Someone can make what those of us "in the know", know as an awesome shot. However to the person sitting at home that doesn't recognize the level of difficulty, the whole shot & it's magnificence is lost on them. Applause for a shot is saying good job. While some shots are not applause worthy by some of our standards, we still want people that "don't know" to appreciate the game & it's level of difficulty in general. IMHO FWIW

I dont think the strategy works at all-Kinda like the 'TV balls'

I agree. I don't feel like the show is worth it if you have to "train" the audience how to respond. If you want me to move, and cheer and clap on command then pay me to be there instead of charging admission.
