Mr Hatch, I saw that one coming

I wasn't trying to get lower on the rail!! I was just trying to get to the center of the table and I under cut the seven and hit it a little funny because I was nervous and the cue ball slid off the rail, if you watch the replay you will see I put my hand down in the center of the table showing where I wanted to get I got a little distracted because the crowd made noise and the ref had to reset the clock NO EXCUSES I should have took more time walked around the table one more time!! Well I am sorry to anyone and everyone who thinks its my fault!! Its hard enough to deal with as it is!! I told my team I felt responsible and they said "if you would have won that match would you have said you won us the cup" and I said no and they said WELL you didn't lose it for us were still in it and if we lose its a team loss and if we win its a team win!! Again I'm sorry to anyone who thinks it my fault I'm sorry! Dennis Hatch

Dennis, please don't apologize for PLAYING GREAT POOL!!! You are a great player that was part of a great team. I hope you make it back next year. You contributed to two great events now. By the way, are you planning to make it to the Derby City Classic? It would be great to sweat some of your matches there in person.

Thanks again...

Some guys, not just any guys, travel to europe with their intentions to defend their nations pride and show everybody that they are great players. I bet that most people in here have to admit they are great players and I bet they did all they could to win. Some unforced errors, good/bad rolls, nerves and unforced errors later, US lost. Still tried hard all the way.
I loved the intensity in Mosconi Cup and imho, Europe had more energy in their team and seemed like they had fun.

I don't like earplugs and it's boring when Pro players are complaining. It's all a part of the game. If you can't take the heat, stay at home.

no need to explain

This is ridiculous, you have no need to explain or reply to idiots who type on a keyboard the whole team fought their a$$ off in a tough environment. you have nothing to hang your head about whats funny about this is i would bet these are some of the same people who were praising you last year. untill one of them gets in that arena and deals with that pressure they have no idea what its like.

Mr Hatch

Thank you for all of your efforts, I really enjoy the fire and intensity you bring to the game. A shot didnt work the way you wanted, thats pool. I myself cannot begin to count the number of times I have undercut, overcut, overran position, left myself short of position or just flat out missed a shot and I think any honest pool players would admit to the same.

Once again thank you and I cant wait for next year, go USA!

Mike

Hey, Dennis played great in his doubles match, he was probably responsible for the win there, but I do think that his was a very key game in the outcome. Loved his energy in the matches, but that shot, eek.

I don't think that the shot selection he took is really an "opinion", I'm betting 90% of the players here would think that the shot he took to bring the cue lower on the rail to get a simpler shot was the wrong play. Hill Hill with 2 balls on the table, you don't try to play position to within an inch of being blocked by another ball. I've done it, and paid the price, so did he. I am also betting if he reads this, he'd agree he should have picked a harder shot on the 8 to avoid the 9.

I was just trying to get to the center of the table right between the side pockets!!!

Dennis,

There is one rule you have to abide by here....... DON'T SWEAT THE DUMBASSES.

You played great for 2 years and with any luck you will get a chance to contribute next year as well. You are definitely a crowd favorite and I am sure Matchroom would love to have you participate again. You bring excitement and emotion to the game and I look forward to watching you and the rest of the team defend home court next year.

Best of luck,
D

The way things went down. There are plenty of great shoooters that could replace these guys. I'd vote for Stevie Moore first and foremost....Jesse Engel or Oscar Dominguez, Scott Frost and Earl Strickland. The premise of the mosconi cup is to have the best players from each continent represent.

Europe has their member selection based off the current european rankings. Why does the United States base theirs off a popularity contest? That seems silly.

They bring their best shooters and we bring our most popular. It's like the state football champions playing against the prom queens.

I'm tired of seeing the same popular u.s. shooters who don't perform well. It should be a privilege and honor to play for the United States not just a right.

The original OP was correct in stating that the turning point of the match was the missed shape of the 8 ball during Dennis Hatches match vs Darren Appleton.

Yes Corey at times played horrible and Shane missed his shots. But there is always a specific time during each sporting event when momentum shift occurs. It definitely was when Hatch missed shape on the 8 ball.

After the doubles match following the Hatch vs Appleton...Mika said during the post win interview that "the European team was riding on such a high "...it was no mistaking that they'd finished the evening with a win.

Although I respect your opinion, the five (or six) guys you mention would be big underdogs to the five who went! We did have the best team there, and a damn good one at that. Maybe one of the strongest squads the USA has ever assembled. York Hall is no place for the faint hearted. Our five showed a lot of heart imo.

Im still in Europe and I STILL have jet lag, dont think that dosent count for a little.

Dennis,

You dont owe anyone shit, especially a apology. You played great, They should be kissing your ass. You have something they (including me) dont and they cant stand it. Dont let jealous people ruin your day or waste your time.

Merry Christmas,

eric:)

FWIW I played with Dennis cue and I after a few games I was scared to hit the ball, it is too much cue for that fast equipment IMO. It is easy to over run anything on hot dry cloth.

Dennis you owe nobody an apology. It is typical of the AZ keyboard cowboys to criticize someone for a human error. It's always a simple game from the sidelines & in this case behind a computer screen. You are a phenominal player who has provided fans with fantastic pool & entertainment for several years, not only in the mosconi cup. The ones doing the criticizing I am sure wouldn't have the balls or the skills to step up to your face and say it or try to prove it on the table. You are something special to this game, and don't ever feel you are not by the ridicule of a few idiots on here. Best of luck to you & your family in the future with both pool & your personal life. :bow-down:

I haven't posted in a very long time. Probably wont post again for a very long time.

Dennis Hatch is a phenominal player. It's not wise to criticise here unless you've been in that situation. Small example; I thought I knew something until I went to that TAR match with the crowd all staring, the massive streaming camera on the table, the different conditions of the cloth and how it reacts, the table being more difficult and different than what I was used to, hearing the commentators after I screwed up simple shots, many people cheering for the opposite player... it totally killed me, and that wasn't even on any scale like mosconi in a super charged room and I was playing for myself. Not a team... and not a country which adds infinitely more pressure on top of it.

It teaches you a lot about the game thats on a whole different level than just playing shape. I completely envy the mental toughness Dennish Hatch and many other pros have that I've been working developing. I look forward to Dennis being on team USA next year as well.

I hope my post wasnt taken in a negtive way because i didnt mean it to,
but my writing skills are bad.
Mr Hatch after watching you last year there was know way i wasn't going to
miss you playing this year. And its not only because you play so well but your
Character. The passion you show for the game is undeniable.
I couldn't imagine the pressure you guys where under but i can tell you
just sitting watching it on the pc i was nervous.
Hope to see you playing in it next year!

I was just trying to get to the center of the table right between the side pockets!!!

BIG D! BIG D! BIG D! That's how I feel about you. In my mind you're one of the best pool players on the entire planet! Period! My only quibble with you is that you don't play more, and travel a little more to play in some of the International events. I KNOW that you can play with anyone! I've seen them all Dennis, and you are one of the best hopes for an American to win a major title. Your game can match up with anyone's, including the filipinos and the Taiwanese. When you're right, which is most of the time, you can intimidate all of them! Now that I know you have a passport, I want to see you at more International events. Like you just said, NO EXCUSES! :)

By the way Dennis, I did say (it's my job) that your match with Darren was a turning point for Team Europe. But when you won that key match with Nick on Sunday (after Johnny's big win), I said that you had put Team USA right back in it. In fact I liked Shane in the next match to tie it up. You redeemed yourself pretty fast imo. You showed a lot of heart in that match Sunday with Nick.

Look Dennis, you've made it to the top of your profession. Only the very best American (or European) players will ever play in a Mosconi Cup. You are known the world over for your skills (yes, all the filipinos and Chinese know who you are). No one is running to make a match with you. NO ONE! Not many people can ever say they reached the elite level in their chosen field, but you can. What you have worked so hard for, you have achieved. Now just go out there and use your abundant skills to win more titles. Get one of those U.S. Open crowns, that you are qualified to win! And then stack a World Championship or two on your mantle to go with it. Only handful of people have a chance to do that, and you're one of them. Just in case you didn't know that.

One more thing Dennis. You're an exciting player to watch. You have a very powerful presence and the camera loves you. Buddy, you're a star whether you like it or not. The fans (live, on TV and online) can't get enough of you. Do you know what the European fans asked me early each day? "When is Hatch playing?" is what they wanted to know. They asked about you before anyone else. Wonder what that means.

Well said Jay, I pretty much agree with all you've said. Good job!

Unless you were there, NOBODY has any thing to say thats worth listening to.

Dennis is a champion and MVP last year, to knock him is such a low class move, i cant hardly stand it. STFU is all I have to say, google it if you cant figure out what it means.

I'm with you man STFU and if you think you have moves over Hatch come to Buffalo and post up and please please please let me know so I can have a piece.

Thanks Eric

Absolutely man, the conditions TOTALLY took you out of your game. Now take that and multiply it by a million and that's the pressure Hatch was performing under.

Thanks for an honest and insightful post

Kevin

whoa!

this was the first mosconi cup i have seen. it was compelling! after the first day, i had my mom and girlfriends watching when they could.

the 'q quotient' of mr. hatch was palatable! he looked tough and hungry. and he certainly didn't look packaged.

seeing the joy and anguish that flashed across his face was like reading a can't-put-down novel. (probably a tough-guy cop gets the bad-guy novel!)

can't wait for the sequel!

Jay,

You just saved me a whole bunch of typing...!!! Very well said.

For those complaining about D being MIA,

If you think back... I believe someone else actually came on asking us to support D in the voting and after the responses were so over the top D came on in response to the turn out... almost in disbelief. He could have just let the voting take it's course and never acknowledged any of you at all. He was getting the votes anyway. Now because some feel he does not contribute enough he used them and now looks down on them. People he was not overly active here before the vote (as many pros are not.. I wonder why?) Be thankful a touring pro took the time to thank you for what you were doing anyway and appreciate it.

After talking with D after it all happened last year let me tell you... A man can not fake the amount of emotion, gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation I saw, heard and felt as he told the story of how you all helped make one of his dreams come true. Realize you did a good thing for someone and expect nothing in return.

D,

You are a champion! There is not a player in the world who thinks you are anything less than a "lion"...!!! Great job and try to fade the BS if you plan to check out the forums from time to time. With all do respect most here would not know greatness if it ran over them... Much less what it takes to sustain it.
