Md team apa payouts

I want to clear this up once and for all! This was several years ago! At that time things were done differently! Second, each league operator has there own rules! The online book applies to the nationals.

if anyone is so inclined read the "apa warning" thread. Several members chimed in that they too have never received a rule book! They to never got any training as captain + etc.

I thought my last post would have been the end of this discussion as the old thread died off a year or so ago and blackcat never respond any further.

Based on other peoples post I am not alone in my frustration with how that league operator handles things!

So, once again Warning!!!!!!

I don't know the details of your situation, nor do I want to know, since I can't do anything about it. My only response here is to the statement that the rules were not provided, which seems to be a big issue for you.

I went to poolplayers.com and three clicks later was on this page:

http://teamapa.com/custompages/custom_pages.asp?Page_ID=20

From there you can get the team manual or the local bylaws. I think the treatment you should have received is described on page 34 of the bylaws. I have no idea if your team was treated that way or differently, only that this document describes what should have happened. It does mention losing all points for a given week and not being able to recover them. Again, something different might have been done in your case, I don't know, and it's not for me to say if you were treated fairly or not. I'm just pointing out that the rules are made available to anyone in the world who wants them.

I'm pretty sure all of this has been available for several years. I'm also pretty sure "teamapa.com" is plastered all over everything sent to the teams in that area. It's where all the stats are posted, so I'm guessing there were people on your team visiting that site on a regular basis.

APA Operator thanks for the link. They did not follow their OWN rules!

b. Under payment of fees will result in the team being past due, and this
amount will be highlighted above your team on the next score sheet that
you receive and on your team payment envelope. If these two amounts
differ, please refer to a-1 above.

From Page 34 like you told me the league will indicate to the team in two very obvious locations and I qoute:

"this amount will be highlighted above your team on the next score sheet that you receive and on your team payment envelope."

Well, that never happened and if it did then we would not have this issue! They placed a "Post it sized note in amongst 50 plus others in the back of the envelope"

and fwiw, there are NO 2's in the tap league im in now, so my guess would be that your situation is the exception, not the rule.

Not true- We have Linda, and she is deadly! Haha I honestly don't expect her to stay a 2 for very long!

Please take the time and read this entire POST!!!!!! These are the payouts that our league operator pay's out 3 times a year at our Regional Tournaments. I hope that this will stop all the bashing about the APA that goes on.

$75,000 TRI-ANNUALS

snip...

That is nice info but it really doesn't mean much unless we know:

1. How many teams play?
2. How many weeks played?
3. How much are the weekly dues?

From that, we can figure how much was paid into the league. If we then take away all this "Added Money", we get to see what the APA National and APA LO take to run the league.

If you think it is a fair amount, okay. If you don't think it's a fair amount, then don't play.

Not a big deal to figure out if I can get the above data. BTW...what is the total payout per year, $75,000?

Not sure about Lee, but last I heard Terry & Valerie were grossing $1 million/year.

None of that information is relevant. I really don't care, the fact of the matter is that everyone is alway's saying that the leagues don't pay and all the crap. I only posted this information to show that some do, I would think more do than the one's that don't reguardless of the amounts. Everyone needs to stop worrying about how much a person's business is making or not.

No disrespect intended BC, however the generosity of payouts (to a lot of players anyway) isn't measured solely on how much is paid out. It is based on how much is paid out vs. how much is taken in. While the numbers you posted seem quite sizeable on the surface, it may represent a pittance to the LO against the $ he brought in.

Players, in general, will prefer to support & grow the league that pays out the highest percentage.

Really? Based on what evidence? Maybe that's important to you, but I don't think you can generalize it like that. I think players, in general, will prefer to support and grow the league that provides them with the most of what they want for their money, whether that's a fun time, good competition, fairness, quality service, payback, or whatever. I think payback percentage is pretty far down on the priority list, in general.

Tim,

I agree that in theory you would think that this would be true.

But in actual practice, a large number of the better players (at least they believe they are) won't just vote with their business but thay think it is their duty to expose anyone trying to make a living off the game regardless of how much work they put into their leagues. If players would simply vote with their wallet, I would have no problem with it. But they don't stop at that.

In addition, based on your theory about supporting the ones that pay back, every league should and would be bigger than the APA. But the membership numbers, from my research, show that the APA has way more players than the BCA,TAP,VNEA and ACS combined. That fact goes against what your theory says should happen. That shows that there are alot more people out there that don't subscribe to the payback theory. One can only speculate that they support the leagues that they think are fun and for the lower levle players, the APA is probably fun.

I know I get up on my league soapbox from time to time but If I can get one thing accross to people (and Tim, this is not directed at you) is that people should focus on playing pool and not worry about what gets paid back. If you do your research before you get involved with any league, then you should know what you are getting into and leave it at that. In my opinion no one should be playing league for the pay outs. Thery should be playing for the fun and competition of it all. If you are simply playing league for the money, then you should stick to gamling and tournaments.

I will also echo some of the other statements on this forum that if running a league was easy, everyone would be doing it. It must be more difficult than some posters on here would lead you to believe.

Just my thoughts.

TimKrazyMon...I'd have to disagree with you...in general. The APA is by far the largest, most active league. Their proprietary formulas are NOT based on any payback at all (except at the national tournament). Any local payback is up to individual LO's. BCAPL is the 2nd largest league, and also is not based on a payback formula, except at the national tournament. Again, local payback is at the discretion of the LO. Since these two leagues represent appx. 70-75% of the 'sanctioned' leagues out there, that seems to support the opposite conclusion. With the exception of skilled players, most league players support whatever league best suits them...be it a payback league or not.

I think if a survey were done, the results might surprise you. I definitely see that trend in my neck of the woods.

APA Operator....Since I've been "out of the loop" now for more than 15 years, I have a question for you. When I was an LO EVERY team received a Team Manual, prior to the start of session play. Does that no longer happen? I'm reading that teams had no rules manuals, which just seems odd to me. In my league areas I also took one team manual, for each host location; hole-punched a corner of the book; and attached it to a cable, situated where the stats were displayed. This prevented anyone from being able to say "there were no rules available". Naturally, this does not preclude local by-laws, which I guess would be available on a local website, for each league.

Scott the rulebooks and more information than most care to read are alway's made available. The simple fact is that no one bothered to read any of the information that is readily made available. Their attention was only gotten once they took all the points away. After the fees were corrected the points were given back minus the bonus points per the by laws. This action caused them to drop in the standings which allowed the next Team which were 2 points behind to move into 2nd place.

I wonder why the loudspeaker at SBE for the tap players is constantly disqualifying people. I laugh everytime someone recommends tap.

There is a long, thought out, reasonable answer to that if you want to hear it. From your last comment, though, I see it would probably be a waste of time.
