no more free water at Hanks

At Hanks pool room in Denver they used to put out glasses and a pitcher of ice water for free. Now that is gone and there is a sign "Bottled Water" $1.00.
Any opnions on this?

My opinion is that you should delete this thread for the benefit of pool. It seriously makes us look really bad. One buck really isn't a lot, I wish pool players would get this through their heads. You should be happy that there is such a cheap "out," most places the minimum priced drink is usually set kinda high.

They were upset about having to pay $1 for a bottle of water?

What a bunch of tight asses.

If they can't afford a buck for a drink they need to be out working instead of playing pool.

The pool room is a business, not a charity.
BINGO!!

Could be health code violations in that?

I dont know, but hey... I spend 25 dollars on a peice of chalk. A dollar for a bottle of water aint gonna bust me! (the hotel I was in a few weeks ago had bottles of water in the honor bar for 9.50)
good lord!!
beers musta been , what? $20 ????

get out the paddles!!
my heart just skipped a few beats
:crying::crying::crying:

Forgive me, but this thread is just pissing me off, the thought of it I mean. I think people just need to get past the whole "Oh, i'm gonna pull a good move today, i'll go sit around and not spend a penny in the pool hall, and shoot a little on my buddy's table." This isn't a battle, just buy a water or two and everyone will be happy.

I really think the problem here isn't the dollar, it is a philosophy that pool players have that they are pulling some kinda move, and if they spend the dollar, they have lost for the day. Get over that, please, for the sake of pool, get over it. Yes, i'm begging :)

couple months ago they had an apa event at my favorite local watering hole
a bar that's struggling already to make ends meet
i had to take a phone call outside because of the noise

there's two guys, stuffing mcdonalds burgers & fries and cans of pop into thier girlfriends/wives giant purses before going into the tourney
yes, i tattle-tailed on them!!

If you quit pool and take up golf then generic bottled water is 2 bucks in Indy at the driving range

Do not B**** when all the rooms are gone, room owners are not philanthropists there to supply free pool to the players.

It never fails to amaze me that people can be so ridiculous.

Expecting an establishment to provide them with free water while they sit around all day? Really????

Make it a point to buy at least something every time you visit a pool hall, people. Even if it's just a $1 bottle of water or a cheap fountain soda. Your table time won't pay the bills. (If you even play at all...)

Wow. Just wow.

Yup, and the "real pool players" wonder why there aren't any "real" pool rooms anymore. Expecting these room woners to open up their doors and get nothing from the people who visit the place.... again, just wow.

I guess this shows there are two sides to the story. first off, if your business staying open is dependent on me buying a bottle of water, you better close the doors, you have no idea how to run a pool hall.

I guess I'm one of the old timers that won't buy a bottle of water. I think I have only bought two bottles in my life, and I felt bad when I did. Funny how people complain about those that don't want to pay for a glass of water to drink because it hurts the business to give it away, but the same people have no problem taking a free GALLON of water and taking a dump in it.

When I go there to play pool, that is why I am there. I am not there to support the business. I am there to either practice, or to make some money myself. Funny how the same people that complain about not supporting one business man complain about supporting another business man when they have to pay the time when they lose. Or complain when the better players actually want to charge them for info so they can get better.

Bottled water is one of the biggest scams out there. But, you young 'uns have grown up seeing it, so it doesn't bother you like it does us older folk. Now, if the room owner is going to offer bottled water, then a dollar is about right. I say that because he has to go buy the stuff himself, and make a little profit on it. But, I also feel he shouldn't be buying it to start with. Most bottled water is nothing more than tap water anyways. Some just filter it a little more, some don't.

As to sitting around the room for a few hours- remind me next time I'm working the counter to kick you butt out the door as soon as you are done shooting. It's called good business for those that don't have a clue. I might be sitting around for a few hours today and not spend a dime. I'm window shopping, ever heard of that?? But tomorrow, I might be in a game and spend a hundred or two on table time. Not like the one or two hours of table time you spend. Having bodies in the room is WAY better than having no bodies in the room. If the parking lot is empty, people will drive right on by.

Years ago, I basically lived in a pool room for a while. There were about half a dozen of us that did. The room was semi-divided in half by the bathrooms. One side was the action side, the other side the banger side. Any time you came in you could find at least 3 of us laying on the benches. Guess which side made the owner the most money? Yeah, the side with us "frreeloaders" made the owner 3 times the amount of money as the other side.;)

So, all some of you have done here, is show that you really don't have a clue.;)

Apparently my post was misconstrued. When I eat at Hank's, I'll expect a glass of water. If I want designer water, I'd expect to pay for it. If Hank was charging customers for tap water, that wouldn't fly with me.

Hank's is a great room. I want it to survive.

Read my other post too please. But, I just have to say this- think about what you wrote above... my table time, which here is $8.50 and hour, won't pay the bills. According to you, it does nothing to help out the room owner. But....... paying a dollar for a bottle of water that he probably paid 50 cents for WILL help support the room???? I'm spending a lot more than you, and you want to call me cheap because I won't pay a dollar for water??

I'm really curious now, how much are you going to start complaining when the room owner makes you start paying for all the water you are flushing down his toilets???

So true, and I can't help but feel sorry for the staff. The people crying about $1 bottles of water ain't tipping jack, you just know it. I feel really sorry for a staff with 'regulars' like that. They must sit around discussing how bad they hate them at 2am.

And despite some of the claims in this thread, deadbeat nits like this are also always the people who also ***** about table time. Every single time.

Nice "pigeon hole" you put everyone in. People that won't pay a dollar for water don't spend anything. hmmm..... you really don't have a clue.

3 years working as a houseman, yep, never saw how deadbeat nits operate. No sir....

Look at your own posts so far. You've complained about the audicity of someone charging a measly buck for a bottle of water, and right in those same posts there's disparaging comments about how much you pay in table time. Absolutely spot on typical of the mindset.

I see post about pool rooms closing all the time. I see people show up for in house tournaments, smoke the room, And not even buy a bottle of water. Here in Florida it is the law that water by the glass be free. One pool hall tries to charge for it. There is even a rumor the owner followed someone out to his car, caught him drinking water, and banned him. That is over the top if true.
But your money games are not paying rent for the pool hall unless you are giving him a cut. I pay 1.50 for water or soda and leave the change. I usually tip a dollar an hour for the time I shoot. I try to go in the afternoon for 1/2 price and pay 2.50 an hour. I don't feel ripped of. I wish the smoke eaters worked better, but really, it is a business.
We don't have enough old timers to support the places left and have already lost one pool hall. If you are on the table, ask for a pitcher of water and pay a dollar. And if you think sleeping on the bench is bringing in business you are nuts. That image is why pool has a hard time. Maybe you could lay your balls on the rail to show what real sharking looks like. There ain't no action on your home table or you would be there getting rich.

Wrong again, where did I complain about what I spend in table time? I used a comparison to show how silly the post above that I quoted was. Apparently, 3 years as a house man didn't teach you much. You only see what you preconceive to be there, not reality.

Gee, a guy angry over $1 bottle of water is also bitter about how much he pays in table time. What a shocker!

hahah yeah it wasn't like I saw it 5 days a week or anything. Let me just ask you this: how often do you question your table time, complain about the hourly rate, and then ask for a discount or flat rate?

I think we both know the answer to that. :D

$1 sounds pretty cheap. I havent been to a pool room that had bottle water for a buck in a while.

Wow, nice attitude. I hope you never enter my business or any of my friend's businesses.

When was the last time you went somewhere soley to support their business? Where do you guys get this crap from?? You go somewhere because they have something you want. You pay for that something, thereby in turn supporting the business. If the business gives good service of whatever type, people will return to that business. They don't go there just to support the business.

To all you that think I'm cheap because I won't buy a bottle of water (even though I do buy something else to drink while I'm there) when was the last time you bought one of those worthless do-dads that are for sale at the counter. You buy one everytime you are there, right? You have to support the business after all.
