1:07 is the start of one of the best exchanges i have ever seen...and yes, you will note Bata scratches 2x, but the cb is scared to;)

the 3/10 combo we are debating is @ 1:35:30. i still say he lucked into it. ive never been aware of any fist-pumping from him, resulting from an intentional shot.

Well, it would have been a two-way shot if he tried to leave the cueball over near the other ball, but you make a very good point in that it's just not in Efren's character to celebrate an intentional shot like that. I think you are probably right.

I'm glad we got that out of the way before New Year's because my resolution is to never be wrong again.

You have a terrible attitude and I can respect that.

The old dog prevailed, 9 games to 6.

5Gs for Efren, not bad for 2 hours of work...

$2,500 for young Wu -- not bad either.

I wonder if Efren is back playing with a Judd again. He was beating everybody with a cue which appeared to be a titlist conversion.

I haven't cheered like that for a pool match for a long time. It was so good to see the old master still can get in a high gear when he is motivated. He's still got all the old tricks. For a while I thought Wu would claw back, I've seen him do it before. This kind of small venue is perfect for Efren at this stage of his career. If it were at a bigger event with more people while in the Philippines he gets jittery cause everyone expects him to make a circus shot every time at the table.

I also noticed he was using his older Japanese Cosmo EBR 501 instead of the Diveney sneaky.

I'll check in for the next match. Between this and TAR pool just might get exciting to watch again!

I read the next match will be on Feb 2012 yet. You can however, watch recorded matches here on this link like Corteza vs CS Yang, Orcullo vs CS Yang, Gomez vs Chang, Biado vs Chang and of course Efren vs Wu.

I dunno, Fred. I wanna BELIEVE, but logic tells me it woulda been easier to make th10, rather than stick whitey on that ball...hoping neither 3 nor 10 touched anythhing.

That said...9-6: I am a believer!
He had no reason to put that English on the cue ball other than to send it behind the seven. Don't believe him when he says he "got lucky".

In one of the last games there was a good view of him loading up with inside spin to shoot the five ball in the lower left corner.

I stopped the action to show Mrs. JohnnyP how he was aiming to compensate for deflection. She said "Yeah, I was wondering why he was aiming that way."

It's downright scary how Efren can juice the hell out of the ball with extreme inside, at very long distance, at all kinds of speed, with a super high deflection cue (from what I'm told). He is truly one of a kind.

I just read that they'll be back February, and with a new and exciting format to boot. I'm already looking forward to this. Here's a partial piece from an AZ article:

"The PBB Face Off will resume on February 18, 2012 with a new format. The organizing committee lined up a match pitting
Philippines versus The Rest of Asia, Asia versus Europe and East versus West."

Nice ... 2012 is looking better already :)

I know many will just say its an exhibition but the players in these matches will play hard and I doubt you will see too many deals as both players are getting decent money even if they lose. This is very cool stuff and I look forward to seeing more of these and like this format, we get to see great pool and the players do okay. Imagine watching stuff like this on TV here with 2 top players battling it out every Friday or Saturday night, one day perhaps but no one besides us diehards will care to watch a match for so little money, it would need to be like a hundred thousand dollar challenge or something crazy like that.

Efren shot reasonably well, a mix of less then stellar open table runout shooting and even worse then his normal breaking mixed with some unreal safety play, kicking, and miracle shots for wins.

Wu played flat out weird. I am not sure if the format got to him, the shot clock bugged him, plating in front of a whole audience rooting for Efren, ect... But he normally shoots far more deliberate, controlled, and safe pool then he played in this match. Some of the scratched cueballs were from out of nowhere and the shots simply did not justify getting that close at all to the pockets. This is a guy the usually plays the rails in a very safe fashion never hitting inside of a diamond from any pocket. I have never seen Wu shoot even close to as bad as he shot in this match.

One thing I noticed, that did not look like 4.5 inch pockets, it seemed tighter then that in this match and I would really like to see how two object balls fit into a corner on that table.
