whoa, folks -- let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater, here.
i gave $500 to this event -- not exactly chump change -- and i am pissed that Mika & Charlie bailed.
but it's not productive to punish the Event because of bad player behavior.
i'm hoping that Charles and/or Steve will chime in here with suggestions for how this is handled, but it seems to me one approach is to say "you don't play the final, you don't get ANY money". and the next person down the ladder plays the final.
in cases like Mika's, if there's a conflicting Official Event, then the playoff should be scheduled accordingly, if that's possible. but things like Charlie bailing to watch another event don't cut it.
my contribution next year depends on what is done about this situation. i still want to support 14.1, and Charles and Steve and many others put one helluva lot of hard work into this thing, as i saw up close in the booth for 3 days. from what i could see, they were clawing for every scrap of visibility they could get for 14.1, and not always with any help from the powers-that-be.
but with this and the DCC fiasco in a row, it's really getting outta hand, and i for one won't pony up money for players who don't show.
