EDIT.. since some have offered to donate for his trip, I will add my paypal to here, this pretty much makes the selling of the cue a moot point, so it will be given to a a jr player or given to be raffled for the BEF or local Jr program. PayPal for Alex's National trip: lgurevich@charter.net feel free to read the rest of the post though, and thanks to all that replied! The trip is at the end of July, if for some odd reason we can't go, everyone gets their money back of course. I think after the money I got for my cue, along with fund raisers and son's saving for this trip, we'll need another $300. If anyone has a patch they want to send (cue maker, whatever as a sponsor), please send me a note and I'll stick it on his case or shirt. We can't wear a shirt there as the players from our area go as a uniform group in USAPL shirts, but I'm sure we can add some patches.

A while back, Steve Klapp sent my son a shorter cue to use, free of charge, I just send him some money for shipping. My son used it for a few years till hit got old enough to use a full size cue, and I have had the Klapp cue sitting in a case for a while now.

My son will almost certainly be going to the Jr Nationals in Vegas, he got invited last year and will either go though winning a qualifier or by getting an invitation through the league he is in. My 13 yr old boy also just placed 7th in a 43 entry tournament this Sunday, handicapped but he played well and got in the cash with players double, triple, quadruple his age. He loves the game.

This is him during the tournament with the room owne, 3C champ Mazin Shooni, who he beat by the way 3-1 hehe

Due to me losing my job in December and just having a contract job now that is not permanent, I do not have a lot of spare money to send him there, the plane ticket will be probably paid for from fund raisers the league puts on, but we'll need money for hotel, food, etc...

I already sold my Joss Limited that I have had since early 90s to pay for this, and am thinking about selling the Klapp Jr cue as well. But.. I got it for free. So I am facing a bit of a dilema here, I originally was going to keep the cue for my daughter, but she is not really into pool, next up was giving the cue away to another Jr player that was worthy, but now with the money issue, I am thinking of putting it up for sale to raise funds for the Nationals trip. It may or may not make a difference, I doubt the cue is worth more than a $100 if that, although it's a nice custom Klapp ebony and zebrawood cue. I need some help from your moral players about what to do here, sell a "gifted" cue to fund a trip for my son or not.

I'm not always right...but I think you should consider it your son's cue and keep it for him for when he gets old. The cue is like a trophy. Your son has good memories using that cue.

By the way...I'm a hoarder.:sorry:

Guess my solution is not an option in you poll....
I don't agree with either of them.

It would be nice to pay it forward and all that, but you gotta take care of your son, before a stranger.

Now take that cue out to the mall and club some ladies with purses! LEts make some real money!! I JOKEY.

Hm.. 3rd pick there, I do not think he cares if we keep it, but that is a 3rd option to selling or giving it away. He has a big heart though, I am pretty sure if I ask him, he would want to give it away instead of keeping it as a memory. In his Jr League the person running it sends the new players to his team and to have him show them how to play, he likes working with the young kids. Once one of them told him that he won a match thanks to Alex showing him how to play, he was talking about that for days.

We do have a "memory" cue though, it's a house cue he used when he won a league we were playing in, the room closed that same day, he used a house cue to win the league finals and the manager gave him that cue to keep. It's autographed by a lot of pro players now.

Not only was that cue used to win the league finals for him, it was also used to make the very last ball shot in that pool room before it closed.

Yeah...but 20 years from now he'll wish he still had that old cue.

Pass it on for free to another young player.

I know this isn't what you are asking for, but I'll send you $20 to help your son get to nationals if you do. I would think 4 others would join me to make up the sale price.

Steve won;t mind...

My friend, I don;t think Steve will mind if you sell this to send Alex to Nationals.
I am 99,9% sure of this. he is a nice guy and he always trying to help, as he already did with Alex.
Tho, if you want to have a clear conscience give him a call and tell the story.
Just my 2 cents...

Alex deserves to be there. Is a talented young gun fighting with the big guys already. I wish you guys the best.

Nothing wrong with selling a gift I think...but it's not your cue, it's your son's. You said it was sent to him. So to me there is something wrong with you selling it....it's not yours to sell. He needs to sell it or have you sell it for him if that's what it comes down to.

I think it should be up to the boy. Him deciding something like this is all part of coming up through the ranks in pool IMHO.

BUT: You also said it was sent to him "to use". That does not sound like a gift but more like a sponsorship. You might want to find out how the maker feels about it. If he expected the cue back (which I kind of doubt is the case) then selling it isn't an option I think.

You already sold your JOSS? To me that is a big deal. Does the boy understand that?

I lost my job less than a year ago. The hardest thing was just thinking of my kids and what might happen. In the previous few three years I had already lost a house and two cars and was only just barely making it in that job anyway, so I had been really worried a lot even before I lost my job. Things have taken off for me in my own business since then but it was damn scary at first. I understand how you feel.

I say keep it and give out your paypal so I can also send you $20.

What cue is he gonna play with now? Is Klapp gonna send you another cue for him?

not to single out eddie...coz there is be more than one of you that either did not read the OP, or ar not intillajint enough to comment on the matter:

It was not a sponsorship, 5 years ago I saw my son was really into pool, and I asked on the forums if any custom makers made kid size cues. Steve Klapp PMed me saying he had a cue he had cut down due to something messing up and was using it as a break stick, he sent that cue to me for my son to use. You are right, it is really my son's cue and I will ask him what he thinks we should do. I will tell you that 95% he will say "sell it". He is collecting all of the money he gets for the trip to Nationals, including the $70 he won at the tournament Sunday hehe.

That is a tough one for sure.I kind of see it as two different issues.

I think the Q was donated to a young begining pool player and if you are done with it it ought to be donated to another young pool player.

Then you have the other issue.I understand that this is your son, but in these current financial times, if you are not financially able to support a trip to the Nationals then I think that your family's financial stability should come first and perhaps you shouldn't be spending money on a trip to a pool tournament.any additional surplus funds that you may be able to acquire oughta be going into the bank.

Sorry to be the voice of reason, and I know we are on a pool forum, but until you have a security job and are financially secure, I personally believe hobbies should be put on the back burner.I certainly would not be asking for or accepting donations to support them when my family may be at risk.

Ha Ha I am not only a skimmer reader but a tard on the side as well

He outgrew that stick a while ago, he used my old Joss for a few years, then I got him a Player's HXT cue not too long ago once he got good enough to have a feel for what type of hit he likes.

And some good points were raised earlier, I will put them together: do you really think that cue is gonna get sold for more$ than we are gonna collectively donate to the cause?

Hurry up, tell us what the boy needs (itemized, please;)), when he needs it and how we are gonna get it to him.
