I just wanted to drop an introduction from the new guy. I saw no specific 'intro section' here, so this seemed the most logical place.....and I am well versed in forum etiquette, I own 2x 100,000+ member forums...so if this is indeed posted in the wrong area, may the staff feel free to wag your finger at me and then move it to the right area....

Anyway....I'll keep it as short as possible, so not to bore everyone to tears...my name is Chris, I'm from Salem, Missouri. I've been fascinated with billiards since I was tall enough to see the top of the table standing on my own 2 feet. Through my early teens and early 20's I was a very active pool player, tourneys, bars, pool rooms, etc......but like most, life happened. Got married, raised a daughter, and the unfortunate side affect of this, my pool playing days were pretty much over....I quit playing actively when I was about 22. Well, staring down the barrel of 40, my daughter only having one year of high school left, and having a little extra money to play with this year, I figured why not get a pool table, something I've always wanted.....but first I had to build a room to put it in... I added onto my workshop. 1200sq ft addition. The pool room is 22x22, plenty of room for my Gold Crown 9' table.

Just a couple pics of the finished pool room:

I built it myself.....took almost 6 months. I began in early June, and finished trimming it last week.

Here's the table I bought... These are crappy phone pics taken at the guy's house. The seller is a close friend of a close friend of mine. The table sat there patiently waiting for the day the table mechanic takes her down and brings her here....

I got some new Simonis860 cloth.....sorry green-loving guys, I had to think outside the box a little, and went with the 'wine' color. It matches the room all too perfectly!!

The table will be brought out next Thursday, the day before my 40th birthday....how cool is that!!! My long wait is almost over!!

Now to what put everything on the fast track.....whoever says being married sucks doesnt have a queen as glorious as mine apparently.... I unwrapped a Brunswick GC5 Anniversary Edition cue Christmas morning.....I never saw that coming!! It's made by Predator Cues as far as research tells me....which explains why its so expensive....but she thought it was pretty and would match the GC table....women! ...all the same, I can't wait to play it!

The new GC5 is in the top spot. The cue in the bottom spot of the case is my trusty old Steve Mizerak cue. I beat a dude out of it at a pool hall when I was 19, I've played with it ever since. It's hit a lot of balls around! The GC ball set was given to me by a guy 15yrs or so ago that sold his table and had no further use for them....they've been stashed in a closet all these years.... Everything is falling into place!! I visited my parents this past thanksgiving, and they have an 8ft table in their basement....its the first time I've hit a ball in over 4 years....and man was I rusty!! Nobody could beat me, but I was missing some of the most simplest shots.... Will I ever play competitions and tournaments again? I doubt it, not as bad as I shot that night.....but I realized just how much I missed the game!

A little about me....I've made my living in the Computer/IT industry, more specifically, component level service and repair. I'm the computer guy that would fix all the hardware that the other "techs" told you was unrepairable. It's been good to me and allowed me to remain self employed my entire working life. I'm also a Nissan 300ZX nut, I have several of them....

There is one more off to the right, not pictured. Its stripped completely down and is being built.

Anyway, that should do it......sorry for being so long winded....but one thing I've learned over the last 12 years of running forums, knowing your members on a personal level makes for a much nicer community....

Welcome to the forum. I also returned to the game after 30 years
of working & raising a family.

There are good tips to be gleaned from here once you've figured
out how to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Welcome! Nice room! What forums do you own? I used to own a '70 240Z, serial # 968, loved that car!

300zxclub.com and badcaps.net

I've never owned an older one....just Z32's. I did have a Z31 once, but sold it before I reallly became active in the Z world.

Welcome aboard, Chris. Looks like a great room and I'm sure you will update us when the GC is set up. I too have played most of my life with a long absence during a busy career. Back at it now! I also had a red Z with T-tops in the late '80s/early 90's. More recently I had a new black coupe for a couple of years.
Enjoy the forum,
Tom

One of the car mags said the 370Z was the best sports car buy.

So, after trying to shoehorn my 6'3" body into one...

I bought a Bullitt Mustang.

Welcome to the site. I've been through Salem a few times. This is a great place with a ton of info for you. If you are getting back in the game, and you are on facebook, you might try Sprinfield Missouri Pool Players group or Nit City group. Lots of good guys and you might find out when and where they have tournaments near you.

^^^ LOL @ the GI Joe commercial. I remember seeing that live on TV when the Z32 was new.....and the Z32 was a 40,000+ dollar far back in the early 90's.....which was crazy expensive for the time, so I knew broke old me back then could never afford one....I've had to buy them broken and build them myself. Made for a great hobby and great learning experience.

I don't do facebook, never have and never will. I just despise everything 'social media' represents.....but that's a personal reaction, and not intended to spark any kind of argument or debate on the subject. If you're ever passing through Salem again, shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to hit some balls around and maybe learn something I didn't know....if someone beats me in a game, you can bet I've watched everything you've done and will try and learn from it....

Funny you mention Springfield....the table mechanic that will be setting the table up is from Springfield. His name is Darren....I don't know his last name, its being set up through a friend of a friend...the table is in Joplin right now...but FWIW, the table started out in Rolla, MO, which is 20 miles North of here...so the table is essentially coming home...

Thanks for the welcome Gentlemen.

Welcome to AZ.

That's great cloth and a great table. You will regret that wine cloth, It limits your chalk choices and whatever red chalk you use will ruin your shafts and hands.

I have a good stash of Masters Blue chalk, I also have some Masters red chalk. how does it ruin shafts? Discoloring I assume? I've had my hands so chalk stained throughout the years its insane....it eventually washes off. I can not play with a glove....never have been able to. Both red and blue chalk are dark enough, I don't see it being a factor on the cloth itself unless there's something I'm missing.

You want your chalk to match your cloth for obvious reasons. Either the red stains more (hands and shafts) or it just stands out more because it is so different (I think its the former actually), but either way it sucks. Maybe the nest solution is to use blue chalk on your red table and put up with the lines that result, but I've dealt with that red chalk on my hands and shafts and that's no way to live.

I have to agree with Kevin on this one. The room looks great and I hope you have a blast with it.
