2013 Joss "Handmade" Cue - Not Exactly What They "Used To Make"

Josh...just wondering...it's been a month since Debbie acknowledged having the cue.....is it being repaired? It's your cue and so you handle matters as you see fit. For the length of time you've waited...patiently....Dan should really be making your cue over and guarantee it will be perfect this time.....you've been incredibly patient and tolerant but he owes you a better cue and in my opinion, he shouldn't try and salvage it.....if that was the plan, you should have gotten the cue back by now.....I think you deserve a new cue hand-made or closely supervised by Dan personally....hope everything turns out alright.

They are making a new cue. That's all I know.
Time will tell if it turns out perfect!

See post #77, on March 4 Josh received another update from Debbie at JOSS Cues stating they had started on the new cue, and that the total construction will take about 4 months.

Good news there, hopes new cue will be perfect.
I'm still very happy with my Joss production cue.

Josh -

I am anxious to see how Dan Janes and the crew at Joss make this right.

You mentioned that you thought maybe sometime in April.

Ken

Thanks ken

Ken, I am anxious as well. But also very patient! I have not bothered them one bit. I am sure Debbie will contact me when the cue ships. And when it arrives you can count on me to update this thread. Cheers!

Good to hear Dan is making it right. I had a bad run in with him back in 2010. I ordered a cue from him that he already shipped without full payment. This was discussed between the two of us. He was a perfect gentleman in all aspects of business up until this point. I was in vegas with the navy and had my wallet stolen. I was unable to pay the final payment on time. I told dan about this and he completely flipped on me. He threatened to go to my command and the navy and court. He told me i was a horrible person for not payingnon time as promissed even after i told him my wallet was stolen. He told me id better get him his money which was i think $125 and not to order from him again because ive burned my bridges. Ok wow wtf?! I told him to do what he felt he needed to do. The navy knew my wallet was stolen so i have nothing to fear. When it all got sorted out and i got all new credit cards and accounts, i paid him. But i will never do business with him again. Im not surprised this cue came out like it did. Im also not surprised he treated you this way. Dan is good to you if your wallet isnt stolen or you dont mind what he sends you. My 2 cents. Glad it all got worked out for you.

Ps i have no hard feelings toward dan but he will never get my business again. Good luck

Sounds like you caught him on a bad day as well. I have had my fair share of bad days, and handled them just as bad. When life is trending negatively, and you are on edge, it does not take much to set you off. I know I have wrongfully blown up on people many times and regretted it later. I don't do this very often in a personal scenario but at work it tends to happen more frequently. But I always try to make up for it later, whether it be a verbal apology or even a simple email can work wonders.

In total, I probably spoke to Dan at least two hours on the phone. Less than five minutes of that was negative. The rest was great. That's a pretty darn good ratio. Even though the bad part was particularly untimely, I still think Dan is a good guy with good intentions. It would have been real nice to get a phone call from him after the fact, but I won't hold that against him. Those phone calls aren't easy to make.

Moving back on topic, I received an email from Debbie last week and the new cue is still in the works. I am hoping to have it by the end of May. I will update this thread when I get it, you all can count on that. Thanks

I hope you never try to sell the cue because this will not help you.
I wonder if he would have given you your money back, $1800 is alot of money, and I would expect nothing but flawless work, no ifs ands or buts. I feel bad for you because I had a similar experience, I paid good money for a custom and when it got to me it had a roll, and I could tell the guy kept messing up on the cue. to the guy's credit, the cue played really nice, but I was making an investment, as are you, we will use the cues, but in the times when money is needed, I would like the option to sell it, and what I got was not going to give me back my investment, let alone have the buyer actually agree to keep it. Your cue has a classic design and it plays as you expect, but I'm sorry, I would not keep it, I would get my money back, that thing looks like a cue makers first try. But hey, if you intend on keeping it to play with, who cares what it looks like, overall its a nice looking cue.

I think I broke one of those cues... lol

I would be extremely unhappy if this Joss were mine. That's not very good quality when the mop dots aren't lined up in the points.

nah, i think its pruhliere, not perry. I might be wrong.

Congrats on the addition to your family. Let us know how the cue turns out......for the price and wait, it had better be stunning.
Dan's reputation could go south fast if he doesn't make a near perfect cue for you. I can't imagine any cue-maker not examining
the cue with a magnifying glass to confirm there aren't any flaws prior to shipping you the cue......I hope your cue turns out great.

Night and day

Cue arrived this morning! It looks so much better.
I am satisfied with the result. What do you think?
Sorry for the impromptu crappy pics, I tried my best.

The correct diamond inlay shapes! And new matching veneer trim rings above butt cap.

I want to thank you all for helping me out with this. A special thanks goes out to Will Prout, without your classy gesture I would not be this happy. Also thanks to Joss cues for biting the bullet and making me a new cue. It turned out wonderful. I can't wait to hit some balls with this beauty! I hope it plays as good as the last one

Cheers everyone have a good weekend :happydance:

That is much better, and I think it would be a nice cue to keep for sure.
The cue even has a little provenance, with Will getting involved, and everything that went on during the ordeal.
I like it

That's a cue to be proud of, on both sides of the transaction.

Sharp and classy.

Happy to see a good conclusion like this.
