Support your local pool room?

The top local plyrs tend to be mobile. They hang where they get the best deal;freebies, suckers, drugs and/or connections, sex, etc. When they wear out they're welcome they move on. Sooner or later they wear out their welcome.

IMHO your better off w/o them. Giving them the preferential treatment they require could alienate some of those who pay the bills.

Keep in mind that pool's paying customer base is mostly comprised of working class people who have limited $ to piss away. Every dollar they lose to a parasite, or some kind of scam, is a $ they can't spend in your business until they get payed again.

Your answer, however you rationalize it, was unhelpful and condescending.

Nothing can help those who do not want help, but only confirmation of their delusions and sympathy.

Condescension is a perception typically created by an inferiority complex.

Thinking that the "Ignore" feature would work well in this case.

Ignoring reality is what gets people so deluded, Push.

Besides, "ignore" doesn't work if another person quotes the ignored.

You have an amazing superiority complex buddy. In many pool rooms it would earn you a well deserved spanking. Now go tell the teacher on me.

So you're condescending because you have an inferiority complex? Is that what you're saying?

Where I originally came from... Louisiana:D , it was just expected that players would support the local pool room. Not only could you expect action there, but also great practice, opportunity for league and tournament play and, most importantly, sort of a "home town - got your back" mentality. On a recent visit back home, I was reminded of this several times.....once by an old friend who was playing in a tournament at the pool room. Now, this old friend actually owned the competing pool room and has $$ to spare, if you know what I mean. When asked about his coming out and playing in the tournament, he simply stated that you "have to support your local pool room". I found that to be profound. Kinda hit me and made me realize that this is what is wrong with where I live now, in Muncie, Indiana. We have a pool room there, but the "players" don't support it. Of course, every now and then, when we have a special event they may (or not) show up. More often than not, they don't. They don't come in to practice, play leagues or even match up. Nothing. It's like they are content to just play in the bars and have no interest in supporting the local room and/or playing better players.

My question is this: Is this something that is just happening here or is pool just completely dead everywhere? Have the players quit supporting their rooms? What is it like in your area? I have found if you don't guarantee them something, then they just avoid you like the plaque.

Tammie Jones

At least at my room. But it always is this time of year and has been for 30 years. The reasons being.
August-The dog days of summer
September-Back to school
October-recovering from Aug. Sept. and preparing for Haloween.
Then it gets busy(hopefully)
I find it is worse this year for a couple of reasons.
1. Poker -really has taken away some real good & dedicated players.
2. The overall cost of living, including gas and housing.
3. Pool needs another shot in the arm as it is infamous for going through up and down cycles. We all thought the IPT might provide it.
I am curious though, how many "players" are you talking about.
If I asked that question my answer would be they are playing poker. No other reason but it is only a handful.

Another thing I found out that also effects people playing pool is the winters are allot warmer + people tend to use their computer before going out after work, and allot of people tend to stay home and play video games and drink to keep down on expenses.

yes very interesting sounds like its mostly bar players there. very much like where im at only a handful of serious players if that. is it the only pool room close to you besides a bar? if there is another pool room maybe its the favorite. most serious players it seems dont frequent bars but thats just my take on the subject.

What I have done, Jay, is inform our gracious host that you, a guest, are abusing his hospitality.

You display an unseemly disdain for rules, especially considering your purported accomplishments as a pool tournament director.

Tammie is a pro.

All I know about Tammie is that she is on the IPT.

So Jason, why don't you tell Tammie why you don't want to go to her pool room and play.

Maybe Sammy is the jealous type and other pros don't feel comfortable around him.

Maybe Tammie is too pretty and the pros don't feel comfortable being there because their wife, or girl friend, would crucify them if they knew they were hanging around the pool room that Tammy owns.

Maybe the pros are waiting for an invitation from Tammy. She should send one out. Invite them over to see the place. Tell them she would like their opinion as to what they think of the place and what she can do to improve it. Then when they come to visit ask them what it would take to get them to come in and play and/or practice there.

Whos Sammy? I believe Tammie's husbands name is Troy. Also I think that Tammie used to be a touring pro during the early WPBA days. But I am sure she can elaborate on her credentials and family life.

And you have an unseemly disdain for civility, which is also requested of posters here.

Everyone needs to keep the language clean and cut out the barbs that are being thrown.

David, please stop badgering Tammie.

Trust me guys, you don't want more from me here, ok?

No, RC. The perception is yours, of me.

So now you're saying I percieve you as being condescending and having an inferiority complex, very well then, I accept.

And you are in violation of the forum rules, as I have reported to Mr. Wilson. :p
I was going to point out that in this thread you crossed the line from pompous fool to braying jackass, but now I'll amend that to whining and braying jackass.

Apparently I get three strikes and then I'm out. After 275+ posts, this is the first time I've felt the need to say anything bad about another poster. Strike one, well-used.
