Ban John French from the commentary booth-PETITION

french said on the stream he would let the cat out of the bag today. apparently has two players signed up and an event planned that will shock to world...

we will see... but I sure hope he is not going to spoil the historic match between svb and denis. French was really a handful and unbearable at times.

but i believe it wont be easy to keep the sponsor of the event away from the mic. I will buy the stream anyway. not going to miss this classic. but i might listen to music instead of the commentary. for sure when French is sitting in.

Are you serious? Where did you hear this

This is the link from the FaceBook Page where the KO brothers say Our American Boss

The above was also linked on John French's FB page and the following announcement

Mandy Wu with John French and 3 others at Steinway Cafe-Billiards.

I'd like all the ppl in the pool world to know that we have joined up with 1 of the best managers in the world. Its time to formally announce that the #1 ranked player in the world 柯秉逸 and his brother, 柯秉中 , are joining Team French to play alongside with Dennis Orcollo and John Morra. We respect both of their games tremendously and are very pleased to be grouped with two of the greatest players around.

Anyone looking to match up please be directed to John French and let's get some action going! This is a new day for everyone in the pool world so let the games begin!

Anyone have any business/background information on John French?

From what he said on the stream yesterday, it sounds like he must not be working anywhere at this point.

John, your skills are in managing these top players. For the sake of me and others who love the game, stick to what you do best and turn off the microphone.

Yep...typical pool.

Biting the hand that feeds it.

Go ahead, piss all over the Patron until he decides to walk away.
You are exactly right, the man deserves some criticism for his booth skills but he's being absolutely barbequed here. This guy is contributing to our game & we need to show a little more appreciation. "he is the worst I ever heard though"

I really like Al and appreciate all of his hard work to stream matches for us. I've been looking forward to this match for months now, but if that guy is in the booth, I won't purchase the stream either. No way in hell – he's detestable. This is really unfortunate and disappointing.

I know this guy is putting up the money, but if his ego dictates that he be in the booth subjecting everyone to his clap-trap commentary, he really is about as smart as he sounds...especially with all the sentiment in the PPV chat and here in the forum. Not a very astute business man, to say the least.

I would like to know before I purchase the match also.

I thought that as well, but no matter who starts off in the booth, my guess is he finds his way in there at some point even if he isn't supposed to be. Anyone who sounds the way he does has zero self awareness.

Given that, no matter is advertised, I'll probably pass on paying for this altogether.

2 assumptions

1-The alleged backing of Ko was not known til after the match started.

2.The backing agreement started at the conclusion of the match.

He announced the signing during the final day of the match. He was telling everyone he had added two players to his stable while on the stream. Maybe that's why Ko played like he didn't give a sh*t that final day? Assumptions, i know.

I'll sign to make sure that he isn't on the stream commentating. He made the match unbearable to listen to.

Fer sure- It was so bad I was hoping 'Live Baby LIVE' or The Lock would show up and replace him.

I truly wish streamers could/would add a 'Table Sounds Only' option for the audio. Accu-Stats streams would probably be the only ones where i didnt employ that option.

For those who didn't purchase, you can read the match comment thread for some excellent snapshots of his commentary. Or, just imaging if Barry Behrman were sponsoring SVB and doing commentary on his match.

French seems to be good for action, but he can't be in the booth. At most, I might be able to tolerate a five minute interview at the start of each day.

Lessons to be learned........

Before I start, I understand how some people might think they have the right to their opinion about Frenchie's commentary and also, I did not listen to the commentary so I don't know what he said or didn't say except what I read here. From the many comments perhaps their is some validity to their claims that his commentary is not up to their standards of excellence.

THIS STORY in some ways reminds me of a time long ago at the infamous Sport Palace.

There was this "business guy" who was coming around the pool room for about 6 months. He owned a siding company and was a good guy who just loved pool and he loved gambling at pool. His pool game wasn't that great but he would match up with most anyone at the pool room and almost always lost. He took his beatings like a man, when he broke even he congratulated his opponent and when he did win, he didn't gloat about it or denigrate his opponent.

What he did do is pay off time and time again, regularly losing every week for nearly 6 months. Now the loss factor doesn't have anything to do with this story and is just some background information for you to form your own conclusions. The siding company owner would come in the pool room at least 2-3 times a week and this one week he comes in and one of the "scufflers" who felt he was being ignored by the siding company owner because the owner didn't want to gamble with this particular scuffler decides to open the business man's nose, figuratively speaking.

The scuffler then begins a merciless tirade, an ad hominem attack of Leviathan proportions on the owner of the company. The scuffler's words were meant to incite the owner to play and the words dug deep. Finally, the owner of the siding business told the scuffler and everyone in the pool room, how he didn't mind paying his dues. He told the scuffler, "The difference between you and I is that you are a parasite and I am a producer. You suck the very life out of pool and I try to put a little back into it." He left that day and never returned to pool or the Sport Palace.
