The Model 31 cue with inlays was built in the early to mid-80s, before Burton Spain retired in 1988. It has his normal 5/16x18 reverse delrin joint.
The other cue is the first one Burton Spain made when he came out of retirement in 1992 and has a more normal 5/16x14 joint - piloted delrin with a SS sleeve. The connecting end of the shafts is all delrin.
Spain offered a lot of options on his cues - the results were sometimes whacky. It's nice to see one that was completely his own design - nice and simple but with extra-long points and highly-figured maple.
But I wish the shafts were thinner - maybe I'll sand them down.
