Who's going?

I am coming for the full 9 days this year, and I am going to play in all three events. I am considering this my farewell to pool to a certain extent, as I am attempting to study chess now a little more seriously, and pool is falling in popularity, AND my eyes won't hold up forever.

I am taking it serious, as this will be my last chance to take a pro scalp or two.. I have already started losing weight, and the months of December/January will pretty much be dedicated to practice and fitness. I live in Germany now and have the keys to a 7 table pool club, and can play any time of day or night I want. I am planning on doing set practice time periods daily with one day a week to rest/spend time with my wife, and just gonna grind out the practice.

I have been every year for the last 7. I usually go with a group of buddies, and until yesterday no one had organized anything or booked a room. I was still able to get a room at the horseshoe for the 119 rate so it's on again for this year. Can't wait.

I'm going up for a couple of days, want to catch the Hall of Fame banquet. Always like to watch some of the one pocket. Been there for all but one of the tournaments and used to play in the one pocket.

All 9 days

I am going again this year. Last year was my first time to the event. I only played in the Banks division....but I did manage to cash. This year, I am playing in all three events and staying the whole time at the casino. I am really looking forward to it. Get to see so many greats and even get to play some of them. I played Darren Appleton last year but had an off match against him. He handed me my first loss. I stayed about 30 minutes away last year and decided I was not doing that again...worth the extra money for the convenience and added experience. Excited to see some folks I havent seen in awhile and perhaps get a chance to meet some more pros and living legends of the game.

It really is worth it to stay at the Horseshoe (albeit I can't say how long this will continue to be the case, with the Horseshoe continuing to raise it's rates every year. People are starting to get pissed.....). If you are out of a tournament, there is a certain value to being able to stay up 24 hours sweating big action matches and then stumbling up to your room.

Just curious who is planning on going this year, playing or spectating? I'm going for the first time this year, playing in American Rotation finals (Thursday/Friday at beginning of Derby), banks, and 9 ball and spectating the rest of the time. Hoping to meet some people face to face during the event that I've chatted with here over the years and catch up with some of the pros I'm friends with.

I will be attending for the first time. I am driving from Oregon, (southern route) and hope to have a good time.
Anyone from Oregon going this year?
I plan on playing the 9 Ball Banks (only because of the free admission afterwords).
Do they have an AZer's room where we can match faces to names?

Unfortunately, for some reason the powers that be felt it was too unmanageable to keep non-AZers out of the designated room, so I think they stopped doing a dedicated room. I really, REALLY wish they would bring it back, as this was one of the best things about Derby, IMHO.

didn't help matters when one of those az'ers "in charge" of the room invites a non-azer in to gamble with him.
hogging up the table for over 2 hours.

If I remember correctly DCC powers that be decided they needed the space for other events and the AZ/1P room lost out. That was what I was told from the person that contacted them to arrange the room. So its not first hand but I believe it.

Well, that's kinda bullshit, because I am thinking that without AZBilliards and 1pocket.org, the Horseshoe doesn't fill up every year.

This tournament series gets a LOT of visibility because of these two sites.

I will be there the 18th - 21st. Taking Little Joe his new DVD's, and some for John Brumback. Not sure if I am contributing to banks yet. Taking the wife this year, looking forward to it.
