Miscellany from the data for the Turning Stone Classic XXVII 9-Ball Open
[This relates only to the 22 streamed matches, not to all matches in the event.]

• The most balls made on a single break was 4 -- once each by Morra and Kang. Three balls were made on a single break 12 times, including once on a fouled break.

• The average number of balls made on the break was 0.9 (this includes dry and fouled breaks). On successful breaks (made at least one ball and did not foul), the average was 1.4.

• 44% (129 of 294) of the games ended in one inning – 20% (59) won by the breaker (B&R) and 24% (70) won by the non-breaker. 14% (40 of 294) of the games lasted more than 3 innings.

• 33% (96 of 294) of the games were run out by the player who was at the table following the break. These run-outs were:
- By the breaker after successful breaks (B&R games) – 35% (59 of 171)
- By the non-breaker after fouls on the break – 73% (11 of 15)
- By the non-breaker after dry breaks – 24% (26 of 108)

• The player who made the first ball after the break:
- Won the game in that same inning 52% of the time (150 of 288)
- Won the game in a later inning 16% of the time (47 of 288)
- Lost the game 32% of the time (91 of 288)
[Note -- total games used here are 288 rather than 294 to eliminate the 6 games in which no ball was made after the break.]

• For the 21 races to 9 (i.e., excluding the finals race to 13) the loser won an average of 4.1 games. The loser won 3 or fewer games in 11 of those 21 matches. Just one of those 21 matches went hill/hill.

• The average elapsed time for the 21 races to 9 was 68 minutes, or 5.2 minutes per game. The elapsed time for each match was measured from the lag until the winning ball was made (or conceded), so it includes time for racking and timeouts.

• The Nagel d. Casanzio match was longest in elapsed time at 105 minutes for the 15 games. The E. Dominguez d. Lewis match was shortest in elapsed time at 39 minutes for the 11 games.

• The Sossei d. Hjorleifson match was highest in average minutes per game at 8.2 min./game for the 12 games. The Finals match (Shaw d. Morris) was lowest in average minutes per game at 3.1 for the 19 games.

• Breaking fouls averaged about 1 for every 20 games, other fouls 1 for every 4 games, and missed shots 1 for every 1.5 games.

• About 45% of the games involved one or more safeties.

Any stats just on Shaw in particular?

Tournament winner Shaw appeared on stream in just 3 matches, all played today. So the numbers for him are pretty small, just 30 breaks. The "All other" numbers are for all the other players who appeared in any of the 22 streamed matches.

Successful breaks (made at least one ball and did not foul):
• Shaw -- 77% (23 of 30)
• All others -- 56% (148 of 264)
• Total -- 58% (171 of 294)

Breaker won the game:
• Shaw -- 73% (22 of 30)
• All others -- 51% (134 of 264)
• Total -- 53% (156 of 294)

Break-and-run games, on all breaks:
• Shaw -- 37% (11 of 30)
• All others -- 18% (48 of 264)
• Total -- 20% (59 of 294)

Break-and-run games, on successful breaks:
• Shaw -- 48% (11 of 23)
• All others -- 32% (48 of 148)
• Total -- 35% (59 of 171)

Just did a little research and added to the previous post the scores for all the Turning Stone Finals matches.

[No hill/hill finals, and no shut-outs or 13-1's. Loser has won 7.0 games on average.]

I just noticed today this news release by Mike Zuglan about the upcoming Turning Stone XXVIII (about 2 weeks away): http://www.azbilliards.com/news/sto...sic-xxviii-9-ball-open-august-31-september-3/

He says: "Defending champion Jayson Shaw & Johnny Archer who both have 6 Turning Stone Classic wins each, will both be there to try to break the tie for the most wins."

I'm pretty sure Jayson has 5 wins, not 6, as shown in post #5 above.
