Cyclop Balls

David, someone is giving you bad info.

The Cyclop balls will *eventually* be sold by Diamond. The balls that are "in country" now are the 380 sets, er, 379 sets, that *CSI* has and is using for the events out at the Rio. You might want to try them instead.

Sounds like Lou got a set.:)

You know that it was me giving the advice that I got from the video but you couldn't help yourself by saying that "someone" was giving him bad information. So much for your integrity.

SpiderWebComm and JB are right about you and so is Schmidt.

Maybe you should watch the video and see what Paul Smith said to do if you are interested in purchasing a set of Cyclop balls. Paul talks about two sets of balls with different colors. He mentions Mark Griffin as an aside but said that if you're interested to contact Diamond Billiards. At the end of the video Paul gives Diamond's telephone number of 812-288- POOL.

You are a real piece of work.

Joey, I was under the impression you had me on your Ignore list. (A friend sent me a copy of your post.) But it's clear from this post you read my stuff, to include my recent trip report to the US One Pocket Open. (Thank you for your acknowledgment and appreciation on that.)

I don't believe that you have much experience speaking on behalf of others, like Cyclop and Mark. And frankly, people often underestimate the nature of that job, particularly on an international stage such as AZ. But, as I think you know, I do have experience in that area. So here, in broad strokes, is how that works:

First off, it's essential that you have direct contact with the principle you are speaking for. I don’t know if you recall, but in my “Day Two Dispatch” I wrote, “Wandering the tournament room I come upon Mark Griffin, Joe Tucker, and CSI's Caleb, and Mark offers to buy us drinks. We retreat to the Rio's main casino bar and sit and talk about Joe's Texas Bumps tournament and the American Rotation league he's forming; Aramith and the story behind Cyclop balls...”

Second, if you're briefing or answering questions concerning a video, you not only watch the video -- you watch it twice, and perhaps a third time, AND take notes. From my notes on the video in question, yes, you are correct that Paul Smith of Diamond says to call Diamond for future purchases. However, in the post you responded to, my good friend, David, posted, “I just called. I believe it is 1:15 p.m. their time. No one answered. I left a message saying that I was interested in buying a set.”

Here is where a good spokesperson connects the dots, fills in the blanks, makes the leap, whatever: what is important is not any particular set of words spoken in the video, but what the true answer to the question being posed is, wherever it is in the video. And in this case, at 7:25 in the tape, Paul Smith says, “Well the sets here at the event are being sold by CSI, ‘cause all the sets here were donated to CSI... 380 sets...” And he’s then asked, “And they’re all going to be for sale after this?” “Well technically yes. But Mark Griffin will elect to have enough to do this event again next year, so anything that he sells he’s going to have to replace. But the sets are for sale for $150 a set for a used set and then if someone is getting between two and nine sets they can get them for $130.”

So, Joey, if David, who was calling this afternoon, wanted to buy a set of Cyclop balls today or tomorrow, you gave him bad info.

In this thread I've been trying to answer questions on the balls because: I was impressed with how the balls played, from first hand experience; was privy to an extended conversation with Mark on the subject of the balls; viewed the video multiple times and took notes so I could be accurate; and I was trying to do Mark a favor by answering questions about the balls and keeping the information “on the street” straight.

Joey, I know you've had *multiple* run-ins with pro players, and I know you, as I, appreciate the difficult position amateur players often find themselves in when facing professional players. I also know you know how meticulous I am when representing others. So, our past differences aside, I’m surprised by your post on several levels.

I guess it's just the internet.

Lou,
Your attempt to put a "spin" on the things you do is wasted on me. I and a few others know you for what you are.

I have never put anyone on ignore even though you insinuate that I have had you on ignore. You won't find any posts where I even suggest that I have put you on ignore. That is the kind of guy you are.

As to the protocol for ordering sets of the Cyclop balls, if one listens to the video and asks where they need to order sets of these balls and comes up with a different answer than what I provided, well, I just can't help you or anyone else.

If you thought Mark was selling the Cyclop sets of balls, contrary to the video instructions for ordering, you could have simply been man enough to say that you spoke with Mark and that contrary to the phone numbers and contact information that was provided by Paul Smith detailing that people could call Diamond Billiards to order, they could call Mark to order them instead.

Instead, you took your "sly" way of suggesting that "someone" was providing them with bad info. You really are a piece of work. This is what many people despise about you. You can't even be honest about your intentions.

I have no problems with any professional players. You on the other hand, seem to digging your own grave with continued ad hominem attacks, especially in the case of John Schmidt.

You could have easily kept your little confrontation with John Schmidt private but you couldn't wait to run back to AZ Billiards Main Forum to gossip to everyone how John had emasculated you.

Maybe, you should apologize to John and hope that he accepts your apology.

As to me, you can simply stop referring to me in any of your weasel ways.

If anyone wishes to purchase used sets of the Cyclop Ball from the CSI event, they need to order sets at the 'Cue Safe' window.

There will be limited sets available after Friday afternoon.

These were brand new at the start of the event.
We have no new sets that we will be selling at this time.

We will sell sets at the event, and if we still have some available, we will sell some once we return to our office around the end of the month.

Any questions: use my email Markg@playcsipool.com

Joey, my apologies on the Ignore issue. It must have just been the lack of blue ink in my life :)

As to the video record, it’s pretty clear. (Admitting a mistake won’t kill you -- see above for example of how easy that is -- you should try it.) And now that Mark has cleared it up, it is even more obvious that you were giving out bad info.

As to JS, there was no ad hominem attack. It was a recitation of the facts without editorial comment. In the past, when JS or any other player and I have had cordial exchanges, I’ve related those as well in my trip reports.

In any case, now that Mark has cleared it up (contrary to Joey’s bad info) if anyone would like to purchase Cyclop balls right about now, they should contact CSI.

BTW, FWIW, here is some promotional material I brought back that was widely available at the tournament.

hmmmm, maybe, pt.

But I will tell you this: if you want the TSA *all over* your shee-at, pack a set of pool balls in your checked luggage. I got bomb detection powder residue all over my stuff and a nice note saying they took a peek. I'm thinking phenolic resin looks a lot like C4 on an x-ray machine.

I really have no interest in discussions with you of any kind.

Continue on with your weasel ways. Just leave me out of your direct or indirect comments and perhaps you'll feel even more ignored.

Yes Lou, we all know how smart you are in indirectly referring to me without mentioning my name. That is so slick.

You can "entertain" yourself by sticking others with your little needles. That's not my business.

JUST LEAVE ME COMPLETELY OUT OF ALL YOUR COMMENTS & PONTIFICATING AND WE'LL BE FINE.

Just a note for those who haven't seen these in person... lighting impacts color. I took a pic with my phone while racking in Vegas and the greenish 6 ball is lighter under the fluorescent lights making it harder to distinguish from the 7 than it appears in the earlier picture. For 8 ball I didn't have any major issues but there were times when an opponent would call a ball by number and I would have to stand up to verify what he was talking about (6 vs 7 and 14 vs 15). It is a problem that would go away after playing with these for a while of course.

I know that one place no can buy any balls is with Lou. :)

If the choice is to be kind or to be snarky Lou chooses to be snarky.

Congratulations to Cyclop for coming with a ball that satisfies Diamond, they are picky.

Would suck if they decide to change ball colors later coz then a bunch of people would be stuck with these funky colored ones.

Nah, they would just become collectible. I sold my last set of Raschigs for $400.

I'm waiting for the Cyclop bonus ball set.

that may well become the holy grail collector set.

best,
brian kc <---- thinking cyclop balls remind me of easter eggs but still may buy them.

also thinking the company calls itself cyclop with no "s" because they were linguistically challenged (from china) and thought Cyclops with an "s" is plural therefore meaning two eyes. Just a guess.

In the video, Paul Smith of Diamond says that a Cyclop ball set will also be available in traditional colors.

Mr. Public Relations Officer,

Please read the comments two or three times to understand them. John said it would suck IF they, presumably meaning CSI, were to change the colors then those who bought them in the current colors would be stuck with balls in colors that are not used anywhere.

No where did he say anything about the balls NOT being available in traditional colors.

As long as you are going to appoint yourself to be the spokesperson for Cyclop/Diamond/CSI how about responding to the actual questions/comments with relevant information?

Don't assume that people commenting have not watched the video.

My experience is that not everyone clicks on video links and that many folks do not read through an eight page thread. In any case, it does no harm to point out that the Cyclop balls will be available in traditional colors. If that bothers you, I guess that's too bad ;-)

I see.

So the PR way is instead of answering the ACTUAL comment, you will come in with a statement you want to make regardless of the relevance to the actual topic.

Why don't you provide a transcript of the interview since you are being so "helpful". Maybe if you are very nice to Jennie she will transcribe it for you.

Of course it does no harm to point out that Diamond will sell these balls in regular colors but that was not the point of the comment Lou. Earlier you jumped Joey's ass about being accurate and listening and a few posts later you are making statements that have nothing to do with the comment you quoted. And for the record Joey was 100% correct in what he said.

the Cyclop ball can be intimidated into falling into a pocket, Brian.

If they were spelled Cyclops, they would be afraid of Noman.
