big difference in rail cushions?

Depends on the rail thickness and what game you're playing.
Cushions play according to how the sub rails are built, same cushions on 3 different tables can play 3 different ways.
It helps to know what kind of pool table you're talking about.
the table is a 40 year old AMF table or at least I have been told, but it says playmaster on the vertical section underneath the rails

All depends on how your rails were built, cushions are not universal.
