The Diamond Ball Polisher consists of one motor driving 2 platters. The motor is a Dayton 1/3hp fan motor designed to give years of reliable performance. Its thermal protected to shut off if it gets to warm, then after cooling down resetting itself, although I’ve never seen this happen in the last 11 years. The motor speed is 1725rpms, but is mounted with a 1 1/2in pulley driving a 6in pulley using a 37in x 1/2in fan belt going to the first drive shaft which reduces the platter rpms to 431rpms. With a 4 to 1 reduction on the motor this insures that no undue stress can be placed on the motor or drive platters during operation as only 25% of the maximum rated load capacity is being used for start up and operation. Both platters are linked together with 5in pulleys using a 32in x 1/2in fan belt. The platters are mounted on 1/2in steel drive shafts. Each drive shaft is mounted with 2 sets of bearing blocks to insure a balanced rotation. Power to the motor is passed through a spring wound timer that can be turned up to 15 min. or shut off manually.
The head of the polisher is easy to remove because it’s only mounted with 4 screws; this ensures easy disassembly for the replacement of the carpeted buffing surfaces. The buffing surfaces are offset to the platters to create an oblong effect to the rotation of the balls while spinning thus creating the spiral spinning effect of the balls as to ensure a total 100% buffing effect of the balls to eliminate any foggy effects in shining the balls associated with all other ball polishers.
Sprockets are lined with a thick nap pool cloth and are used to separate the balls to keep them from crashing into each other as they spin which on almost all other ball polishers can be seen in the finished shine of the balls. Sprockets are available for the different sizes of balls as well such as billiards balls and snooker balls as well. Billiards balls can be cleaned and polished at either 3 or 6 at a time per platter. Snooker balls and pool balls are 8 at a time per platter.
The wax I recommend is the Maguire’s cleaner paste wax applied with a pad while the balls are spinning in the first platter. With the use of the Maguire’s paste wax there’s no wax splashing build up all over the place, as the wax is applied directly on the object balls first.
Q&A:
Q: How long does it take to clean a set of balls?
A: About a minute and a half.
Q: How often do you have to change the carpeting?
A: That depends on what kind of wax you’re using, with the Maguire’s cleaner wax there’s very little wax build up so that’s a hard question to answer. If the ball polisher is used in the way it’s recommended to be used with the waxing and cleaning done only in the front platter and shining only in the second platter, then I would say that you could probably get away with only having to change the carpet in the front platter maybe about once a year, maybe even longer, it really depend on how many sets of balls you clean weekly. I know of some pool rooms that haven’t changed the carpeting in over 5 years, and the polisher still works great.
Q: How often would you recommend changing the cloth on the sprockets?
A: Changing the cloth on the sprockets often is one of the real secrets of not having to change the carpeting on the platters as often. The rule here is the more you change the cloth on the sprockets, the less you’ll have to change the carpeting on the platters.
Q: Why is that?
A: The sprockets and the cloth on them are a fixed object placed between the balls while they’re spinning to keep the balls from touching each other in order to eliminate the crashing into each other marks on the balls, but the sprocket is non-moving in the since that the balls are in fact being rubbed against the surface of the fingers of the sprocket. How clean the sprocket cloth is will determine how fast the balls will clean and shine I guess is what I’m trying to say.
Q: How does this ball polisher stack up to other ball polishers already on the market?
A: Hmmm, let me answer that question with a question. Who’s going to sell someone another ball polisher if the one they already have never wears out or breaks down, and work great every time it’s used? I feel that if the other manufactures of ball polishers want to stay in the market place, they’re going to have to make a polisher just like the Diamond polisher if they expect to continue selling their product.
Q: How much does one of the Diamond ball polishers cost?
A: Right now the price on a single unit is $650.00 plus shipping. We do offer a discount on the purchase of 2 or more polishers as well as wholesale pricing.
