Looking for a good Pool forum...

..because this one obviously isnt it anymore. The whole first page is half filled with either threads about Jimbo, threads about Wilson, thread about Kristi, or threads about all 3 of them together.

So with that said, other then the billiards digest forums, does anyone know where else to post for some good pool discussion?

In times gone by, the same thing happened when two of my favorite posters were banned from this very forum: Drivermaker and Rude Dog.

I think there are many pool forums to check out. I have found a whole lot of them from around the world. I do not have too much in common with some, but I still check them out from time to time.

The Matchroom Sports forum is pretty cool for the international pool scene. There are many Filipino posters who are rooting for the hometeam on this forum, but there's a few strays like me who post there. ;)

I started posting here during the drivermaker mess and stop posting for a little while during the one with Rude Dog.

If you are looking for a good pool room forum this is it. This is the best pool forum out there. The group of people that post here have a huge knowledge of the pool scene.
This has been a bad week for AZ, more then a few emotions have cropped up. I think ever since the IPT went south the board seems a bit tense and people seem to jump on each other at a speedy pace.
I think in the following weeks the board will chill and go back it's normal grove. I think it would be nice if Mr.Wilson got some help in the other parts of the board, I also would like to know if jimbo wants to come back?
This isn't a jimbo or wilson issue, both of them can live together here on the board.
anyway
happy new year

Heath, maybe we can try to make this one better. Ignore those posts and start some interesting ones.
When would you like to get together again and play some pool? How is your dad's cue working out? Don't forget to dust off the BreakRak now and then!

I would love to get together again, maybe sometime around the end of January or the Beginning of February if that's good for you. I still have your number I will give you a shout.

Dad actually traded up on that Filipino custom cue. It was a nice looking cue and played well, but it was also made by an relatively unknown Filipino maker (Gracie cues). He actually traded it for a beautiful Jacoby Gunslinger. Considering the price he paid for the Filipino cue ($225) I think he made out pretty good :D

I know you were conversing with Purdie Don, but being that y'all are from my neck of the woods, where do you normally like to go to shoot pool?

I miss USA Billiards in Laurel tremendously. Between Seth the Kid and the other "regulars," there was always a little action there waiting for any takers. :p

Where, oh, where are the action rooms in our area? Do they exist?

I disagree, I think this is an amazing web site. A while ago I saw a thread started by Fred asking about the origin of the 3/8 x 10 joint and Bill Stroud, who invented the 3/8 x 10, responded to the post. That is like asking a question about baseball and having Abner Doubleday respond.

There are idiots in pool rooms but I try to ignore them and focus on the great people who go there. Same with this forum, don't let a few idiots ruin it for you.

Just my opinion.

Hmmm. I cant really tell you where all the good action is as I dont know much about it. Im a cheap gambler. Most I play is 20 dollar races to 5 :D. Top Hat up here near Parkville/Towson is a decent one. You can normally find somthing cheap at least over there. Plus they have a tourney every sunday up there that I heard Ryan McCreesh and Jerry Slivka would frequent. I shot in it once and advanced some, but Ryan and Jerry were not there that day either. Hot Shots up here on Rt 40. Pulaski Hwy also has some action up there on occasion at night. There is one particualt guy there that I know who gambles for a couple hundred at a time (and makes bad choices doing it), just make sure he posts the money before hand. I dont know of anything really worth the drive up here.

Purdy, my Father and I went and hit some balls around at Champions in Rockville for a few hours one weekend. That seemed to be the halfway point for us, since Im close to Baltimore and he is South of DC. You and Keith should meet us up there one day, unfortunately Im not in his caliber gambling wise. Purdy, dad and I played 1 dollar ring games when we went, but I would be more then willing to donate to that if Keith were to join us.

You guys going to Valley Forge again this year? If so I have to get another picture with you guys, I looked high as hell in the one from last year and I was stone sober :D

Hot Shots is cool, and I do like the owner and the folks who work there. It is a comfortable action environment too, which makes it quite attractive. Sonny moved his restaurant right in the same shopping center, and they have some EXCELLENT food there, along with some bar boxes. I know Henry frequents Hot Shots, and he's always GREAT action if one can match up with him. Henry is always looking for a lock, but he does offer a fair game from time to time.

I have only been to Top Hat once on a Sunday, and fortunately for us, Ryan and Jerry were out of town at another pool tournament. Keith and Max ended up in the finals, and they played ping pong for the difference of the prize monies. You should have seen that match-up. It was great entertainment. :D

Not sure if we're going to Valley Forge this year. I do love the Super Billiards Expo, though, because of the multitude of activities. The expo itself is the BEST in the world, as far as I am concerned, when it comes to pool with the many vendors who travel there with their wares. It's a great place to see things up front and close.

Of course, I'm usually downstairs near the action tables. That is the biggest draw for my camp! :D

If I do make it to Valley Forge, I will definitely bring my camera with me and snap a couple pictures myself. Maybe we can trade some! :)

I disagree - this is the best I've found and IMO the reason you don't know where another one is, is because there isn't one.

The biggest problem we have here is that there are a few elitists who feel that every thought or piece of advice they have to give should be heeded immediately by the Moderator. The key thing is that 'we' are the forum - we have to give our opinions, as you are doing, or it also won't work. My opinion is that it is working, despite the 'bumps'.

Yeah Sonny is a cool guy. When I mentioned that trade for the Jacoby a few posts up, he is who we traded with. I also recently got a Leon Sly cue from him. I BCA league at his bar/resturant right next to Hot Shots on Sundays.

I know who Henry is but like I said earlier, Im not in the gambling caliber. Im sure he doesnt know who I am. I havnet seen him at Hot Shots recently, but Im normally up there at different times. Im usually up there from 3pm-7pm on Saturdays playing some Keely (Pill Pool) for $1 and $2 with it doubling up to four times. Im only there at night when my wife has something else to do that night. Otherwise Im at home hitting some around in the basement.

Yeah Sonny and his family are good people, Im happy to say that I know them and are friends with all them up there. His resturant (Rosedale Station) does have great food and I think the move for him was a good one. Since he is right next to Hot Shots now he has been planning on knocking down the wall that is between the two of them and pushing it back some, extending the Bar by adding another 5 bar boxes for his league since it is so succesful. The Poolhall will be shorted by about 5 nine footers, but only bangers shot back there on those tables anyway.

Flare-ups like this have happened before, and they'll happen again. But they rarely last more than a week. Everything should be back to normal by New Year's Day.

if your looking for dull/pc chat about pool... billiard-talk.info ,,,,,,,,,,,,good/civil
discussion you can't understand (unless you read German)... Billard-aktuell.de

otherwise AZ is the only place for frank/funny & sometimes flippant discussion.

Icon,

I hear your frustration. Unfortunately, there are only so many content/member rich Pool forums to choose from.

I like AZ Billiards and appreciate Mikes efforts to maintain this website. Keep in mind, though, that this is also a business (AZ Billiards) and as such, has proprietary rights to how it's run. For that matter, as a business, the "customers" will patronize AZB if they feel they are getting their "money's worth". Eventually, the membership will decide what is the best Pool site by their patronage.

All these things will pass too.

Edit: ... and aren't all that bad anyway. Relax.

Icon,
No forum will ever have more than a fraction of it's content that will be attractive to everyone. We must pick and choose what we peruse.

I WILL say that no other forum has members that have a room at DCC; and if you haven't sampled that particular pleasure, then your opinion about this forum will have to be assessed as incompletely informed. Hope to see you at DCC.

Of course OnePocket.org shares the room at Derby City -- we're the 'little brother' :)

One Pocket is one of those niches -- our forum will never have the breadth of topics, volume of posts, and number of members as AZ, or for that matter the Cue Chalk Board or RSB news group. But as one One Pocket addict to another, it offers an important fix.

I would guess AZ is just suffering a momentary blip from a couple of moderator/member issues, it will bounce right back. I count myself as a fan and wish you all well.

See you in ONE WEEK!!!
