My New Darrin Hill Cue

I got my new Darrin Hill cue several weeks ago and I like it a lot. The work and finish is flawless. The hit is firm but crisp and sensitive, and the cue is very precise. It won't do any more or less than I ask of it, which very reliable. Lots of feedback/feel and nice slightly forward balance. I really like the taper on the shafts...long but crisp. I really appreciate Darrin taking on this project, as I provided some of the wood and Darrin took a chance with me. He's really great to work with and I would recommend him to anyone. Specs: BEM forearm, Bocote buttsleeve, Aegis half-joint and buttcap. Rings are Micarta into ebony trimmed in Bocote. Shafts are Eric Crisp/Wes Hunter "diamond" grade dowels (turned by Darrin) with 34 & 35 rpi., ivory ferrules, moori tips...these are amazing shafts and this cue is a major player. Thanks again, Darrin, and these photos really don't do the cue justice!!
:p

Your new Cue

Rayjay,

You just seem to get more and more beautiful cues.

That last Davis you showed was fantastic. Now this.....your one lucky guy.

You sure do have an eye for great cues..........enjoy !!!

Thanks for the pictures :)

Super clean looking cue. I think darrin is building the very best players cue in the world right now. His fit & finish is as well tops in the craft! :)

Welcome back, sir!!!!

Nice looking cue, Ray. Always enjoyed the look of the plain janes...and this one is dressed up nicely. Sounds like one hell of a player, too!!

If it does, in fact, come with auto-pilot...feel free to send it my way. I could use the game boost!

Congrats on a great pickup. Enjoy!

Mark

Thanks guys. I couldn't be more pleased with the cue. Mark, my best wishes for you, your wife and new little girl. Hope all's well.
:p

Took the words out of my mouth

DAMN, look at those shafts!
Player's!!!
beautiful cue!

Great shaft wood. Bet she plays...

Thanks Guys...those are ridiculous :) Hey how is curly maple dif from birdseye? Is it a different wood or just a certain grain of birdseye? Either way ALL of these cues are incredible...it kinda reminds me of cooking...a great chef can take leftover scraps and make a great meal.... a great cuemaker can take a plain piece of wood and without adding any extras show that wood's true beauty...I love it!

Every time I see Darrin Hill's name mentioned it takes me back to Dec. 2011, when he wrote:

"Remembered forever"? I gotta be honest with ya... I'm just not seeing it.

I remember this post, and I instantly thought that's a pretty aggressive statement..
I must say Darrin was close because Scott will be remembered forever...

And some will be remembered forever, for obvious reasons,
and it's not the ability to make a cue.
The mirror is calling you, dare you have balls to look?

Picture the scenario.
The group is toasting marshmallows around the campfire talking cues.
One guy whispers, he made a few nice cues.

Simultaneously they all say loudly
What an Effin Jackoff he was

Yes, I recognized how proud you are of yourself back when you wrote that 2011 post. But don't waste time worrying about me - keep your eyes on that plan to be remembered forever.

Just be sure and let us know when the Smithsonian requests to display some of your infinitely mundane work. Scott Gracio is doing some truly amazing stuff, but in my opinion your best shot at being "remembered forever" is to go shoot up Times Square.

Darrin is a great cue maker period. Those A Holas make rude comments like Mr. Wayne is what make people shun away from AZ. Mr. TW i wrote you off for a cue your comment is way out of line regardless of who the cue maker is.

Oh God, written off by an anonymous poster who can't possibly be in my customer base. How will I ever sleep again.
