If you have ever had the pleasure to watch Alex play one pocket via youtube, stream or in person, then you know what a stone cold champion he is.

Alex moves like a ghost and can run 8 and out from very tough spots. IMO he is the best one pocket player alive today. Scott can't beat him even, JJ, Dany Smith, Shane (its close but not there), Richie Rich etc. However, most of you probably haven't had the chance to see Tony Chohan play because there aren't many videos of him playing and he just came back from a "break" about a year ago.

This guy plays so ****in lights out its insane. He was around Houston for a little while playing Richie Rich and just tortured him. I'd love to see him and Alex match up. I think that the only person that can hang with Alex right now is Tony. Its crazy how talented this guy is.
 
Tony was always one of my favorite 1P guys to watch. When he is in gear its a lot of fun to watch.

Tony is not playing Alex anything even.
 
Tony is top shelf. If he plays Alex I hope I can watch it. He seems to be playing even better since his break.

I played Tony once in a Bay Area tournament..........
Not only did he nicely run over me, but he did it in the most beautiful display of natural stroking you could imagine. It was a pleasure watching him even though I was taking the loss.

My guess is Tony would require some weight to play Alex. There are probably at least a half dozen top players who would be rated higher than Tony in a high stakes match. Alex is definitely top 5 and could be the best on any given day just like several other top dogs. There is no clear cut best at 1 Pocket currently like there was with Efren for many years.

Me too. Watching him play Billy Incardona at the cue club is the single reason I finally started playing one pocket. Up until then, I thought it was a boring old man's game... not the way he played it.

Have you watched him play recently? He came through Houston and from what we saw, Alex looks like the only person that can touch him right now. I don't think Scott can beat him even which leaves Alex as the next closest match up.

I disagree. If Tony plays the way he did in Houston (for 10K and a few 5k sets) then throw your top 5 in the mix by all means. Imo and others much more qualified than myself, Scott can't beat him even, Richie Rich can't and I don't think Danny Smith, Bergman or anybody else can right now besides Alex and maybe Shane. Shane is still "new" to One Pocket and has more focus on rotation.

Not to say things won't be close, but my money is on Tony. I think Alex would win but it would be closer than when Scott played him.
 
I would imagine if anyone wanted to stake Tony against Scott they could get action.

Yeah, if Tony and Scott get into a big ahead set for big money like Alex vs Scott was I am gonna have to take Scott for my money.

Justin Hall is too strung out to shoot fish in a barrel and Danny Smith can't win because Tony shoots and banks just as well and moves better. Again, I think he and Scott can play even with Tony being favorite.

Danny and Tony just played a month or so ago...
I guess thats what keeps the action going, disagreeing on who is favorites. :)

Tony C can get there against any of them perhaps. But in a decent length ahead set for a good chunk of cash against any of the above I would put some money on one of those 6 guys to win.
 
Interesting

This is a very interesting debate and also a difficult one to judge correctly. All the players mentioned are great players and can get there against each other depending on the day. What needs to be mentioned is how the different style Tony plays affects different players. He does not play a power or conventional style. His style is more of a wide open game.A threat to shoot at any ball at anytime making his opponent uneasy as to where to leave Tony. I would say he is a underdog against Scott, Alex, Darren, and Efren in a long ahead set. However the rest of the list that I have seen mentioning Hall, Corey, and others would have major problems trying to keep him in check. Hence they would loose. Also something needs to be menioned; when Tony is shooting straight and making those make or bust shots no one has to win. When he is playing on that level no one on earth can fade him, to this day he has the highest one pocket gear I have ever seen. Although I must admit there are other players who are consistently better.

Example

Maybe JCIN could chime in a little on what I am speaking about. His match with Chris Bartrum in the US OPEN one pocket was one example of what I am reffering. Chris didnt make really any mistakes just Tony took those make or bust shots and he's off to the races. This is impossible to contain or stop. The only hope is if hes off and happens to miss these shots. Sorry for the rant just trying to explain myself.
