D.C. Metro Area Weekly Tournaments! [EDITED 6/15/05]

I went to the local Wednesday tournament last night at Orange Ball. :)

One of the TD's told me that they received some new attendees due to this thread, which is great. Now the Wednesday night local event has grown in size because of AzBilliards Discussion Forum. There were 11 AzBilliard forum members in attendance, including myself. :D

I was told there are a few changes relating to money payouts and formats since I originally posted to a few of the below-referenced, and so here are some edits in green. p

Thanks for the info, JAM! You are the WOman!
Can you please write me a get out of work (with pay of course) letter so I can go to all of them for a month?

Black-Balled, you know what they say about all work and no play...

Tonight, I expect there to be quite a few players at First Break in Sterling, Virginia.

Brandon Shuff, who lives nearby, told me last night at Orange Ball that First Break just had all of their tables recovered for the upcoming Tiger/PP 9-Ball tournament this weekend.

Another goodie is the fact that First Break stays open until 4:00 a.m. and is an action-friendly pool room. Keith's designated breaker also lives in the vicinity of First Break! ;)

They are going to have a progressive Big Rack every Thursday. Tickets are available to take a shot at the Big Rack. From what Brandon said, you get paid for every ball you make, even if you don't run out.

So, for a 25-buck entry fee, we're heading out there tonight. Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh will be there as well, if he can tear himself away from poker for a few days! Pookie is another local yocal to First Break. I predict that tonight, there will be action on the horizon! Plus, it will be nice to get used to playing on the equipment before this weekend's Tiger/PP 9-Ball event!

BTW, I am bringing the product SlipStic with me for all to try out! It may come in handy because it's going to be hot and humid this weekend!

Thanks for the warnings!
And, the designated breaker has my cue! About 10 years ago I got busted in Westmont Champions and asked Doug's bro, Chris to lend me $100 ($75?, $50? who knows) and I gave him my Scruggs SPete as collateral. About a week later, I tried to get it back and was informed it was sold! A few different folks had it, now the DBreaker has it and I cringe everytime I see him slammm em!
I am gonna try and make it out tonite, so I can get feels for felt!

Thanks for the tourney postings JAM...few I didn't know about...I may have to hit that orange ball one...do they get 16+ players?

I heard a rumor that the blackholes at first break have actually been tightened up a bit...one table is now double or trippled shimmed.

As a note, I think they're only open until 4am on weekends.

everthing that came close got sucked into those things.

Earthquake and Genie Man Black-Balled!

Last evening, we went to First Break to attend the first weekly tournament. All of the tables have been recovered, and the front table has its pockets double-shimmed.

Native Virginian Black-Balled played brilliantly and defeated Brandon Shuff in the finals. On his way to getting the big "W," he beat Ryan McCreesh and Keith McCready. Walter a/k/a Black-Balled is one of Virginia's best-kept secrets. Although he keeps a very low profile on the pool circuit and is a family man with a full-time job, make no mistake about it, he's still got game and will be a force to be reckoned with this coming weekend at the Tiger/Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour.

This is a nice weekly tournament and complements the other pool happenings in the region. First Break is a great place to hang out. The management and new owner is a pool player himself, and it is his desire to make First Break one of the best stops on the tournament trail for the players.

Looking forward to this weekend and hope to see you all there.

Buddy buddy? Is that who you are? Or ar you the 'Low rider'?
Thanks for the kind words, JAM. I have been playing like doodoo lately and found some game last night. I have a new break stick that is doing me good, as I am sure KM will attest to  . Still need a significant spot to play the MCs tho! Speaking of which, any action happen last night? I know there was a lot of green about there ;) .
And, I slept 'till 10am today. Got home and noticed I had the Friday flu. Pool flu, that is!! Thanks for the paid sick leave, boss!! :D sucker!! ;)

I was the guy with the really long, fast, and ridiculous looking pump stroke. I think you talked to my friend about playing (robbing) me :(

Brandon and Ryan did matchup. They started out playing cheap sets on the shimmed up table...with Brandon getting some weight. Brandon got up early and from what I heard - and Ryan couldn't get in gear. By the time they finished at 7am, the sets were jacked up well past a dime.

Yowza! They started out at 5 percent of a dime, with Brandon getting the wild 7. When we left, Brandon was up one set, and the second set had just begun. I was feeling mighty lucky to get home by 2:00 a.m.! Both players are full of confidence and have no fear. Combine that with deep pockets and you've got Action Jackson!

This weekend is going to be exciting at First Break in Sterling. I can't wait! :p

I had tried to update this thread this morning and provide some new-and-improved details, but instead, I hit the EDIT button [replacing my first post] instead of the REPLY button. :p

Anyway, this is just an updated FYI for the local yocals who follow the local weekly tournament scene in my neck of the woods AND as well for anyone who's planning on visiting the Metropolitan D.C. area sometime down the road. :)

Wow - This thread is from 2005 lol. I was reading it yesterday thinking it was current, then re-read it today and noticed the date.
