Racking Triangles

IMO, Diamond racks are high quality and will last a lifetime if taken care of.
Delta racks are great as well, but they are so damn loud.

You get what you pay for.

I use the Delta 13 (cheaper one, not the elite) at home and it works pretty well.

The one I got had a few small sharp areas that I had to file down once I got it but that only took few minutes and now it's smooth as glass. I'm guessing they aren't as careful with the cheaper one as they are with the elite.

It's also a bit noisy but they have leather inserts for it online that I just haven't ordered yet.

Delta was probably the best non-template rack I used that I can remember. If you want cheap, get a few Magic Racks and such. Only games those are not very good for is 14.1 or one pocket. Someone posted a link to some rack that looked like the Delta that was about $30, Dans or Don's rack or something.

The best racks imo are the Magic Ball Racks. These are the template racks for about $10.

The best triangle conventional rack is the Delta 13-Elite. If you don't want to spend $100 for this, the next best imo is the one below:

This one is less than $10, and it is made of THICK plastic. I think this one is better than the Diamond Wood rack that is about $50. We have this rack in a local pool hall, and they have held up great for 20 years. The wood ones fall apart well before that.

Whatever you do, don't get this rack! This is the cheapest, it flexes like crazy. One pool hall had all of these. You don't want this one.

I use the cheaper Delta 13 and bought the leather inserts for it. They make
the intolerable CLANG sound turn into a Thud sound which is as tolerable as
as any wooden rack.

IMO: nothing racks a full set of balls better than the Delta 13

I am looking to buy a rack for my house and the only ones that I've found that rack well are the Diamond Billiards Racks: http://www.realrecreationusa.com/p/...le-Ball-Rack-Walnut-Stained-Oak-76928814.html

Has anyone had any luck with off brand triangles that are cheaper?

Per your post this is exactly what your looking for:

I have 2 of them: one at home and one I carry with me when I play at bars with crappy racks. Diamond being #1 this is the 2nd best conventional wooden rack I have found.

Wouldn't leather inserts impair the precision of the metal rack?

I personally use a Delta 13 Select with the leather inserts. However, I do like this composite Seybert's has. Does it have a decent amount of space at the back between the balls and the rack?

I use the Delta 13 when not using the MR's. Unless the rack is plastic or a wooden POS, most racking problems are the balls, cloth/spot or someone needs to practice racking. Johnnyt

I have the same at home (elite with leather). At the pool hall I grew up in, we had the thick walled plastic racks like in the link I posted. I don't know 100% they are the same exact rack. But they sure look the same from the picture. Anyway, the one's in the pool hall have been there for probably 20 years. They are "players" racks, IMO. They have room in the back for your fingers.

The Delta and Diamond both do a good job. Biggest advantage with the Magic
Rack is the reduced wear on the cloth.
