Here is a wonderful example of Travis Niklich's talents as a custom cue maker. I think he probably has the nicest finish to his cues as any cuemaker out there. His finish makes the cues look as if they are still wet. The cue belongs to a good friend of mine. We like to call it "Tequila Sunrise" Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think of this cue.

very, very nice

Beautiful cue! Do you also have a total view? I like all the single elements but how do they complement each other?

Great work!

That's a real looker of a cue there. I love the points and butterfly combo and that is some super figured burl there to boot. I noticed the real nice finish on Travis' cues a few years ago at DCC.

One word does it for this cue, Awesome!! I like the low butterfly points, I have never seen it done like that. Very nice.

The rings, the silver inlay work in the points, and the butt sleeve show how much Travis has developed into a great cue maker.
I am sure his cues will continue to evolve into great pieces and I am going to have to get in line soon.

I don't. Everything else looks great and well executed but the rings ruin it. They belong on a Haley, not a Blackcreek.

Truth be told, it isn't just the ringwork that reminds me of a Haley.

Nice cue nonetheless, but a little too Haley-looking for me.

I think that this Black Creek would be available for the right price. It was offered to me a while back.

From what I understand, Ron has helped Travis along in various ways and it might just be showing respect. That being said, I would agree that Haleys' ringwork is, and should be, unique to his cues.

That is exactly the case. Travis also talked to Ron about doing it.

I agree with your reasoning...they are friends and that was probably indeed the case with the ring details of this cue. It's a beautiful cue.

That being said, how about a little devil's advocate (sort of). If these would have been thin maple stitch rings instead of silver with the colored slots, then would they be OK ?? Or would you consider it a copy of a Coster ?? He was one of the first guys I can recall doing this type of rotated effect stacked stitch ring treatment in the late 80s/early 90s. Often these type of things can be linked back to the great predecessors that came before.
