Trying to Steel another Idea

Well folks it appears that we have another person who is trying to steel or at least copy a friend of mine product. I was looking around on the internet and ran across this website. http://billiardclub.net/shop/index.php/cPath/295?osCsid=4beaff4fdfdcca89f97d8e3bfbecfee5 This is a can of Quick Clean that was used at the US Open for the past few years to clean the tables and behold this guy is trying to sell it as (Chalk Off).

Well I just happen to know Davis Hodges who invented the Quick Clean and I just don’t think this is right. This website is not only selling the same thing with a different name he is using the same can as Quick Clean with Ralf Souquet‘s picture on it. I contacted a few people about this and I have been told that this guy is putting the pressure on Berry Berman to use his product at the US Open because he also is the same guy that does the filming for the TV also. I think the pool world has enough trouble with out having things like this going on.

It is one thing to develop a product and market it but it is something else to out right copy someone’s idea. I found this on the Billiard Club web site. Not to my surprise this guy was at one time world distributor for the Quick Clean product but fell through because of things un known to me. My question to all of the pool players in the world is this. Do you feel that this is right?? To me it is out right steeling another man’s product.

I know from past experience that the pool world does not like things like this and I am hoping that we all can pull together and put a stop to it. I think people should use their mind to figure things out for themselves. I guess some people have figured out it is to easy to STEEL or COPY things that other people have already done. How do you feel about this??

Get a Legal opinion

Think your friend need to find a LAWYER, and get a Legal Opinion on where he stands from a Legal prospective on this PROBLEM.

No, he can't do that; what he did is not only illegal, but he made no effort to hide that it's someone's else's product, which makes him a moron. When you enlarge the photo, you can read on the can "David Hodges' Quick Clean" ... What a jackass.

i agree that what that guy did is wrong..............

BUT BUT BUT

i'll point out that david hodges did NOT INVENT anything. his quick clean is merely a cleaning product used in another industry that doesnt involve pool.

he merely took the same stuff, put it in a different can, and sells it in the billiard industry. which is perfectly legal, and was a GREAT idea.

however he didn't INVENT anything.

thanks

Since I doubt he is getting it from your friend, it sounds like your friend has just been re-packaging a common product under his own name. Like some of the shaft cleaners are just softscrub. That is the way marketing is, if you are successfull, expect to get knowked off. You have to have a good market established to stave it off but I doubt there is anything he can do about it. Your friends product sounds like it may just be a common fabric cleaner that can be gotten and the other guy is doing what he did. Thats life.

The man has made some very beautiful cues. I saw a special one he made for Frank Glen full of fresh water sport fish. Very nice indeed. How da fu@k do you know if the man ever invented anything? I know the stuff worked majic on my old table.

Patents ...

This is why patents were invented. Does one or both have
a patent on their products?

Sad fact of life is your patent is only as strong as the amount of money you have for legal fees to protect it.

So let me get this straight. Some bloke buys some quick clean, and sells it on. If he wants to replenish his stock, he has to buy some more. You know, some people just have no scruples. If we don’t put a stop to this sort of thing now society will end up with a retail industry, with streets littered with shops and stores, and then where would we be?

Anyway, nobody stuck up for me when my Dampcloth TM was ripped of by all and sundry. A unique product activated simply by hydrating. And I offered a free bottle of dihydrogen monoxide cleanser ignore the safety warnings with every cloth too. They said there was one born every minute. They never give you their names and addresses though do they.

I am sorry but i have to stick up for Dave on this one. I have seen all the work he has done to invent this and have talked with the chemist and also Frank Glenn who was involved in inventing the product. I traveled to a lot of tournaments with Dave and helped him clean a lot of tables. There is nonthing like this on the market in any other area. Either way i think it is wrong and i am willing to stand behind him and anyone that comes up with an idea and someone elce tried to steel it. I am a true beleaver in friendship and right from wrong. I had something like this happen to me and if it wasnt for the support of the pool players on these news groups i might a of had the same thing happen to me. Thanks again to all.

I have been a table mechanic for about 5 yrs now. I have an idea that everyone who owns a pool table would like to have for each table they own. I've looked online and Ithink my idea is my own. Where do I go from here? thanks.

I would first make up some drawings and describe what it does or what it is slip it into an envelope and send it to me :D OK just joking, mail it to yourself certified mail and don't open it, that way you have minimum proof your idea was first. then I would look into a Patent attorney, or if you don't want to spend that much money look into the USPTO.gov to file a Provisional Patent Application, It's like $200 and gives you the right to use Patent Pending for a year. And never show or tell anyone your idea, don't just email the USPTO your idea, make sure you have all the plans and follow the exact procedure to file, read all you can on the site about how to do it.

So check out USPTO.gov check out the site index or help for all the info you can every hope to read.

PS: If your idea works out and you become rich, please don't forget the little people who helped you out.....hint>> ME <<hint... :D

I had a look at the pictures of the cans on the website, and it is not a can of Chalk-Off, it is a picture of a can of Quick Clean.....the guy is advertising Chalk Off, but uses a picture of Quick Clean.....
Why is that?? Is that intentional? Idiotic mistake?

I have 3 cases of the Quick Clean in the pool room i covor tables for and i know it is the same can. Also like i said i traveled with Dave for 3 years and cleaned a lot of tables so i know a lot about this product. To me it is just bad business to out right steal another person's idea. Beleave me This guy wont winn this one. If he has came up with his own product i would not advise anyone to use it on their table until they know for sure it wont hurt your cloth. When we are at the tournaments 90% of the players love for us to keep the table's clean for them. We have benn told that the tables play so much better and you hardly see any blue mark's on their hand when they get done playing.

I'm not disputing that at all....Maybe you didn't understand me, what I am saying is he is advertising 'his product', but shows the photo of the product he allegedly stole.... Its like me coming out on a website saying I've got a brand new shoe company called 'Joe Blo'...but I show a picture of a shoe that clearly has a Nike symbol on it...It ain't gonna help me much.
