A couple of questions for bank pool players

Living in the northeast I really was never exposed much to bank pool. Lately I have been working on banks to help my 1P game, and I am also trying to learn Golf.

My question is this.....Do you all bank by feel, or use some kind of method? I watched some of the bank pool from the DCC and HOLY COW.....those guys can flat out bank a ball! :) and I could see some of them measuring banks some how.

I have been trying to section the OB on banks that arent natural, and it helps some. For multi rail banks I use the diamond system, and a few from Jimmy Ried, but on 1 railers....that I should NEVER miss.....I am looking for more consistency.

thanx in advance,

Gerry

Check out Banking with the Beard. This guy rocks.

For the 1-railers that you don't think you should miss..

Try hitting the angle a little bit wider but with a little more power to cut the angle. You should have a better success rate when you are coming into the pocket at less of an angle. The small the return window that you make for yourself the less of a chance you'll have at going short/long on the bank. (IE- if you're banking down only 4 inches, you'll have a better chance than if you're banking back 6 inches further down than the starting point)

Hope that helps some..

thanx in advance,

Hello there.I play It pretty good, let me see if I can help ya with that.
Here's a method you can try, works good for me.The angle in is the same angle out.(So called) "mirror system" Try that, but put just a little bit of inside on the cueball to hold the object ball. Also known as "stiffing a bank".
And hit em with a good medium speed. Hope that helps.JBKY

Pretty good is a major understatement. Directly from one of the best bankers in the world, I would definitely focus on this post. Thanks for being here and responding JB. I'll definitely call you sometime soon.

He is the BEST bank pool player alive for sure.

Banks

Set up perfect banks and get shooting. Ob needs to be off rail at least one in. Maybe two in. Shoot with low to keep cue out of way. Pop the shot. Sometimes shape/leave must be sacrificed but not always. Hopefully a stop or draw shot gives shape. You must SEE the bank. Are you an analytical type shooter? If so analyze to your hearts desire. Hopefully your an instinctive type. If so then stroke and go. It is a feel. It is the greatest game saving, lifesaving shot their is. I was a better banker earlier in my game cause I missed shape so often. As I became a better position player my banks suffered. Get with a buddy who does bank well and get going. Someday people will call you a banking fool. You gotta shoot banks to make banks. You are guaranteed to miss 100 percent of shots you don't take!! Don't forget what Yogi Berra said. You can see a lot just by looking!!

I use either a CTE hit with "X" speed to pocket the bank....i can lengthen it or hold it by adjusting the speed of the shot

I also use a tangent system and will use english off that to hold my ball

holding/tightening the bank will make the pocket bigger also

for multi rail I use combination spot on the wall and CTE/running english feel the speed and make it indeed.

With me it depends on the shot, most banks I play by feel. On crossover banks, which have always been the hardest to judge for me, I use Freddy the Beard's method. It helped tremendously.

Banks is the best game there is, Why it isnt played everywhere makes no sence to me. I never played banks until a couple years ago, man did I miss out. There is very little luck, you have to hit the white ball perfectly etc. Banks should be played everywhere. I'm in Germany right now and they never heard of it here, I watched some real strong players yesterday at a private club play, none of them ever hit a bank shot the right way when they had to shoot a bank, they were rolling them in sometimes. These guys are good players but almost clueless on how to bank. I told my friend here if he played banks for 2 hours a day in a month his game would jump up alot, Banks gets me in 9 ball stroke faster than 9 ball.

You might be freezing your "arse" off in Germany, but I bet the beer is just as cold !!!!

Aw shucks JoeyA.You don't have to say all that.I'll give ya one for free!
Do not use low english if you don't have to. It will just make the pocket smaller. Well, I'll give ya 2...Center ball, on most bank shots. One more..
Keep the but of your cue down JoeyA.JBKY

Gerry...Here's probably the biggest secret...most 1-rail banks are a half-ball aim (CTE). Pivots are not required.

BankingB who posts here on AZ is Brian Gregg from Indy and he has as much bank offense as any living human and he is definitely a system player and he gives lessons on banking. I doubt he posts his system here publicly but if you are interested in learning those systems i can get you in touch with Brian.

I just wanted to acknowledge your avatar. I know most people on here don't know who Popcorn Sutton is but he is a legend around here, he lived on his own terms and died the same way. Love the pic

Thanks for the tips. I probably use english (right/left) on my banks more than I should. Do you use english to play better position or avoid the double kiss? I guess it's like any shot, the english just complicates things and should be avoided if possible.
Thanks,
Bill

I'd suggest listening to John Brumback very carefully as he is an outstanding banker as most of us already know. I'm taking notes on every tidbit he writes. I LOVE banks too and would be ecstatic to play the game close to JB's game!
