Full Splice Cues

Manwon right here on the forums. I know because I hear people talking about what a great craftsman he is. Also had several conversations in the past with him. Full splice Billiards I think he is in Tacoma, Washington. Craig is his name

I know that Craig was working to get it down perfect before actually building them for sale...but had not heard anything recently. I am sure he will chime in with the correct info.

Jeff Prather @ Prather Cues makes an outstanding veneered full splice blank. I have been very happy with the two I have received so far. One was completed last year, and is a great little player. The other one is currently being completed, and should be done sometime around the SBE...I can hardly wait! BTW...he also makes a really nice looking full splice cue as well... http://www.prathercue.com/cues/in_stock_cues_for_sale/in_stock_cues_for_sale.html

I have heard mixed reviews on the Davis blanks, so cannot attest to them as compared to others.

Travis of Blackcreek Cues also does a very nice full splice...but to my knowledge, does not make blanks for others.

Murray Tucker also makes full spliced cues, but does not sell any blanks, and the wait time will be a matter of patience IF he decides to make one up...but so well worth the wait, IMHO.

Ed Prewitt also is now making full splice cues, but not offering blanks.

Jerry -R- is now making full splice cues as well...but I am not sure about offering out blanks or not.

Mark Bear also does full splices....and is currently building non-veneered full splice blanks available from Bell Forest.

Schmelke does build both veneered and non-veneered blanks for sale.

I am racking my brain to see if there is anyone else.....I am sure I am missing someone...

Oh...Eric Crisp can build a full splice cue, but whether or not you can get him to is another animal altogether.

John Davis is the man

Drop $350 and gte a blank from John Davis. He used to work with Burton Spain, who was one of the masters. You can pick out your wood and veneers and it takes about 2-3 months. Points are sharp at the top and bottom. Very few people can do that. He is in Chicago. Super nice guy too. If u want, pm me and I'll shoot you his phone #.

Almost any cuemaker, except for some of the super expensive ones will do a conversion.

Actually...I have found that there are many makers who would rather NOT take in a customer supplied blank for completion. Some will do it as a rare exception, depending on the blank's quality...or as a favor. I have found that more and more makers would rather showcase their own cue building acumen than take on another maker's blanks. I understand the reasoning behind it...another maker's blank may be a complete unknown with regards to build or material quality. If something goes wrong...it's generally the maker completing the cue that gets the blame...it's a gamble on the completing maker's part.

I have been lucky so far...but I also offer the maker who I am asking to complete the blank the right to see the blank in hand first before making a final commitment to complete it. It is, afterall, their name that will be forever attached to it.

As a side note...I know that John Davis gets the nods here...but I can tell you that my experience with the blanks I have received from Jeff Prather have been of some of THE finest exotics available (some really rare, highly figured stuff too) and the build quality has been extremely tight, and in the turning, got even tighter. No apparent glue lines, nice even points, great point bottoms, sharp veneers.

Of course, my basis for grading a maker's blank is strictly for those blanks which are meant to be wrapless, to take full advantage of the woods' beauty. It is partly why I hate seeing a wrap on a full splice cue...it's too easy to hide poor construction techniques under a wrap.

Lisa =====> only plays with wrapless full splice cues, and knows what to look for. :yeah:

He hasn't gotten it down just yet, I asked him about this a couple of weeks ago.

I know this might be a controversial question but how about the full splice cues coming out of Asia?
