Something very special for my Son!!

Those of you who know me............please keep this one to yourselves, I will not give this to him until May for his graduation.

I've always kinda smiled when I would hear of stories about a cue being passed down from a Grand Father to his Grand Child or a Parent to their Child. I thought it must be a very special feeling for the recipient of such a gift. So I thought it would be cool to do something for my Son, so he could experience that feeling. Of course, he wasn't getting my cue LOL!!

When my Son starting playing, he played with an old Willie Hoppe cue I picked up from E-Bay. Not a great cue, but it played well and he liked the old school look. That cue fueled my idea, and Joel helped bring it to life. I also enlisted John to build a case to complete his gift.

So thanks to Joel Hercek and John Barton for allowing me to pass along a gift to my Son that he will be able to enjoy for a very long time!!

Mike

and more.............

pictures.

Some of the "stats" on the cue:

Joel's first brass joint / his largest inlay to date / the first Hoppe style with that small removable bumper (Thanks to Chris "SEBAS" for the heads up on that one, it was his idea)

The Hoppe ring has brass above and below the ivory. The "label" area is ivory bordered by ebony and then brass. The two "dots" are malachite bordered in brass.

It is Rosewood into straight grain maple with black / purple / green / natural veneers. The green and purple were from Burton's old stock. And the leather has a seam from what Joel said..............................but I still can't find it!!

i love you too dad... you are sending the cue to me right?

That's a splendid gift and great gesture...i'm sure your son will appreciate it (if he doesn't i do mean it when i said i love you dad..). Reminds me of patek philippe...

I'm curious though...you're giving your son a Hercek cos you're not willing to part with your cue??? What are you playing with??

This is a great set up, very nice and I am sure he will be ecstatic. Your a good father and he must be a great son.

That's a very good idea, I think he will really like it. I know i would like it if my dad did something like that for me, and its a very beautiful cue, and case.

Hi,

Tell him to never let his friends use the cue to play with. :shocked2:

Great and thoughtful gesture for sure.

A 21 "Bow" solute to you, sir! I saw the case that John made and a reference to a gift for your son, but WOW, this is fantastic. You are a very generous and thoughtful Dad, the perfect combination. And, your son & grandchild are very lucky. Major rep to you.

Dave
