Members Only Section on AzBilliards

I'm throwing it out there as a hypothetical, even though the AzBillardsHousePro -- the webmaster, in other words :D -- hinted to this concept a week or so ago in an unrelated thread.

Do you think a Members Only Section would get much play? If there were a paid membership to AzBilliards which provided a Members Only Section and other benefits to be determined, while the rest of the forum remained free of charge, do you think a Members Only Section would be a hit or a flop?

What are the possibilities and benefits to a Members Only Section? It could be designated as a place for some posters who do not feel comfortable posting on the very populated "free" public forum. I am just interested to hear from others about this concept. Any ideas?

Suggestions welcome from any and all respondents. Lurkers and first-time posters are invited, too! :D

How about members only by invitation. After a sufficient number of "good" posts the person is invited to the nice quiet room. Any disruptions results in immediate removal of the invitation.

Don't know if I would like it but it might be worth a try.

I spend all day, everyday, on the Group W bench and you want me to WAIT to be invited to the 'quiet room' ?

I agree, Joe. I would hate to join something and still be bombarded by political rhetoric, people trying to sell reject quality forearms from China, and others trying to pawn off their marginal quality cue equipment on unsuspecting first timers.... :(

perhaps someone (JAM) might start a thread asking for criteria to join/pay to belong to this group. my suggestion: anytime over 25% of members want someone booted; they're history (not just the decision of a moderator)

I hope a "Sense of Humor" would be a requirement for the invitation.:D :D

25% of the 10,000 Members or 25% of the 1300-1400 that Log In daily ?
Doug
( I don't think I like that idea, because I'm 'on the bubble' )

So if 75% of the people like you, you'd still be gone?!

Seriously though... I think a members only section is a great idea. Just think of all the possible benefits that could be there.

I've the background & the money to be a member of the local country club, but I prefer to hang out at the local pool room.

Why? Because the characters at the pool room are far more enjoyable than the snobs at the country club that wouldn't let these characters in.

Y'all have brought up some very valid ideas, ones very worthy of consideration.

I also thought that maybe the Members Only Section could be a place where pro players could post, if they so desire. It could be that some pro players are uncomfortable on the "public" forum, but the Members Only Section would be frequented by AzBilliards members with a "good" established track record and possibly could be a nice place, hopefully, for the pro players to visit now and then.

I, too, am sick to death of political threads. I get so much of it here in D.C. in my work. I hear both sides of these political battles ad nauseum. Both sides' opinions stink from time to time.

At any rate, I digressed. I like these suggestions so far. The more the merrier. Keep 'em coming. :)

I also thought if -- and this is a big "if" -- AzBilliards did offer a paid membership, this Members Only Section would attract those who like this place enough to pay for it and may want to help keep it intact.

Members only

We just started talking about a paid members only section and the benefits. The first issue is how to send someone to the island? Doomed to fail if that's the priority. Again, what could be the bene's?

More than 7-8 months ago I suggested a small Annual fee for using the forum.somebody got upset at my suggestion and gave me negative Rep points.
When I suggested the annual fee my intention was to remunerate the services provided by Mr.Howerton.I did not have any intention of creating Exclusive class.I am not in favor of creating chism on this board. In my book every living creature is valuable and every poster including travis trotter is valuable.

It's not Travis Trotter that I'm worried about......... it's ME.

( I may get voted OFF the island )

I don't like the idea of having to be a paid member. I've read the forums for a while now, and while there are posts and posters alike that serve no visible purpose, there are some really good posts that one can gain knowledge from. If I have to pay for that, I may as well pay for lessons. JMO.

Here are few ideas to ponder as other benefits for the paid membership to AzBilliards.

10 percent off on all items advertised on AzBilliards.

Once a month, a contest can be held for the paid members for a pool-related item. It could be an AzBilliards shirt, a Hustlin USA Clothing baseball cap, an Accu-Stats DVD, an autographed cueball, whatever the webmaster thinks would be doable.

At least 50 vChips deposited per month. I'm getting sick of looking at that big fat goose egg underneath my name. :D

An end-of-the-year prize, to be determined, but a really cool one.

I also thought that a prospective benefit, valuable to most veteran posters, could be the PMs. There exists free PMs now, but paid members could have maybe expanded PM privileges, or in the alternative, maybe the paid members should have the PM privileges only. This is suggestion which I know may not be received positively by some, but remember, it's only a hypothetical suggestion. :)

Any thoughts?

The forum will remain free.

I am only speaking about having as well a paid membership -- in addition to the free membership. The paid membership will receive extra benefits. The other forum sections will remain intact, but a paid Members Only Section will be a new addition.

It's only a thought, anyway. :p

I don't think paid membership is the right way to go... Pool is expensive enough for me right now, and I have enjoyed participating on this forum so far, but most likely wouldn't continue if I had to pay for it. You would probably lose as many of the "good" posters as the not so well liked ones... plus, there's nothing to prevent a not so well liked poster from putting up the money and invading the quiet and peaceful utopia, as is done now.

A "members only" section is a feature on one of the other sites.

The benefits are not obvious to me.

To each their own.....

I guess that it could be worth it. If it was something that you don't like you wouldn't have to pay again. I keep buying lottery tickets and never win, so I guess spending money on something like that wouldn't hurt.

I totally emphatize with you and understand your point of view.

Everything on the forum will remain the same as it is now -- FREE. However, a Members Only Section could be a perk for a PAID membership to AzBilliards, with additional benefits to be determined.

Those who do not want to pay for the membership can still enjoy the forum as it exists right now, with no change, other than the Members Only Section.

I was thinking that a very nominal monthly fee might be doable, like 5 bucks a month, but that is not for me to say. I am only posting up ideas. :p
