The after hours game went off as scheduled the first two nights. The first night featured Tyler Edey, John Morra (18 yrs. old), Michael Gillick from Germany, Nathan Rose, Kevin Hall for starters. Jamie Farrell, Jason Kirkwood and Johnny Archer also got in for a period of time. It was 50 a man and lasted until 5 AM.

We had a good crowd sweatin' it all night. Tyler was the big winner for about $1,750. It was shown on tape delay on the internet the next day. Go to dcctickets.com to see this show. It's FREE! Or accu-stats.com

The seond night saw David G., Kevin, Joe Wilkins, Tyler, John Morra and Johnny Archer mixing it up again. It lasted about three hours with John Morra the big winner, about 1K to the good. Johnny Archer probably broke even for the two nights. It's not so easy when you only shoot every third game, and you're hooked!

Thanks for your work and for the updates. Appreciate it while I'm getting ready to go to the office :(

Jay, how good or Morra and Tyler? Are they 'world' class yet? Just curious on how you would rank them.

Tyler IS world class. He can play great, but has his off days too.

Young John Morra is very, very impressive. Probably the best 18 year old in North America. I can't imagine any youngster this side of Justin Bergman that has a chance with him. Certainly none who are younger. John plays great, has good composure and is fearless. I can't say enough about how impressed I am with him.

He is further along than Shane was at the same age. All that being said, I saw several kids that age and younger who played this speed in the Philipines. One who is 15 and a couple of 17 year olds. John told me that he got pasted by the 15 year old when he was over there. I forget all their names but I saw two of the filipino kids in action two months ago, and I said then that they were already world class pool players.

But John is the real deal. I see a great future ahead for him. He is a likely challenger for Shane in the coming years. And a good young man to boot. I like his style. Cool, calm and gracious even in defeat.

Says heaps and heaps imo.

Jay, great assesment on Morra, you hit it right on the head. He is a world class person on his way to being one of the best in the world.

To be honest, I just wanted another opinion. I watched him win the event here in Ottawa. He was incredible. Very well behaved on and off the table. My 6 year old son was cheering him on. He looked and said that John was his favourite player. He has a long future ahead of him that is for sure.

Last night's field was the strongest yet, with Archer, Mike Davis, Stevie Moore, Tyler Edey, Shin Park, Jason Evans and John Morra (naturally) competing. It lasted nearly four hours, and Mike Davis emerged the big winner. Young John did okay too. He hung right in there against Archer, Moore, Davis and Edey for a long time. Never flinched once and made some impressive run-outs. I LIKE THIS KID! 18 and fearless!

I wish it was a Friday or Saturday evening. A couple of us from Ottawa would have come up for a road trip to watch some good pool and play some games also.

Good luck to both Eric and John. They are both very impressive.

Hi everyone,

Special "Hi" to Scott....long time no see :)

When I first came up to Toronto with Alex, he introduced me to John and told me to practice with him at LeSpot. It was funny cause I knew right away that this kid is GOOD! But what I dig the most about John, which I think is the best thing about him compared to other young players, is his composure and his all-around demeanor. Yes, very competitive and fearless, but also humble and cool. He smiles easily and and has a genuine love/passion to play the game. Very rare he is in my eyes. You won't truly understand until you watch him play, trust me.

His father AND mother are great players - that probably had a great influence on him. I personnally, think he was and is the next great player in the making from North America. Whether he knows it or not, I was and am a fan of his. It is only a matter of time when he will be mentioned as one of the best in the sport.

Hey Scott, tell everyone in Toronto I said "Hi" - I will always have you "Canadians" in my heart.....Tom, Raymond, Eric, Terry, etc., etc. hope to see you guys again!

Our best Ring Game yet was early this morning. It started slow with only Mika challenging Canada's dynamic duo of Tyler Edey and John Morra. This threesome battled over an hour before Cliff and Bobby Pickle joined the festivities. There was some great Ten Ball being played with one outstanding run-out after another.

Pretty soon another young gun named Shane wandered into the Accu-Stats arena. Yes, that Shane! No one is barred from this game and now we had six for breakfast. That is, if your diet includes high speed pool. What a game ensued with some of the best Ten Ball we've seen around any tournament for a long, long time. This game was a pure challenge, and a shootout to see who would be the KIng of Ten Ball Ring Games.

Cliff couldn't keep up, and soon we had five. Bobby Pickle kept the crowd in stitches, asking them if this was a bar table, since he didn't play big tables. He played great too, but soon took his "Redneck" fan club and vacated the arena. When Tyler decided he had enough, we were down to three survivors. Rather than quit, they upped the ante to a hundred a man.

Now it was the proven champion Mika, battling the wunderkind Shane and the kid Johnny Morra. For nearly two hours, they fought for supremacy, with no one giving an inch. A crowd had gathered to witness this shootout. The rare missed shot reminded everyone that they were playing on a double tough Diamond Pro table.

When the smoke cleared at 5:30 AM, the big winner was JOHN MORRA! He never backed down and he never flinched. He just kept drilling balls into the heart of the pocket. Shane was even and Mika was stuck. This kid is opening a lot of eyes this week. He has arrived, big time! He doesn't go into the Action Room, because he can't get a game in there. At 18, he is a marked man. Too strong for all but the champions to deal with. The Hustlers walk a wide swath around him. There is no woofing directed his way. He is fast becoming the "new" SVB.

At Valley Forge a few years ago, he could have played in the Juniors but he played in the open event that drew, I believe, over 1000 great players. He finished 2nd, and I think he was 16. That was an amazing feat. You can youtube him and find some great matches with him, and also his father.

No problem! You can damn sure be proud of John. I think it's kind of cool. For a while there I was worried about the North American pool scene, and a lack of top tier talent. But then Shane came along and now we have young John. Landon, Chuckie and Austin are coming champions as well.

Who knows, maybe some glory will come back to the birthplace of Pool. For a few years now, It's been all about Asian and European champions dominating nearly everything. Other than John Schmidt's win at the 2006 Open, there has been little to crow about over here, until this past year and Shane's emergence.

I look for big things in the future from John Morra. Once he gets over the hump and wins a major, look out. His wins in Canada and now against the best players are doing wonders for his confidence. He is no longer intimidated by anyone. I like his "bring it on" confidence. When I asked him if he wanted to play 100 a man against Shane and Mika, he just gave me a soft okay. Like, no big deal.

I'm just as impressed with him as I am with Fatboy and his big Kahonas.
