Olhausen pockets

About 3 weeks ago my new 9 foot Olhausen table was delivered, replacing my 8 foot Brunswick table. What a difference. The pockets are tighter and the extra length makes it more difficult to play. It seems that many more corner shots rattle out than I'm use to. I play 9 foot gold crowns in league play and never noticed a problem. Is it me or are the Olhausen pocket different?

It is probably the the rails. What size are the pockets? How deep is the shelf?

Man, just hanging out with RealKingCobra a few days and I can answer table questions!!!! Crazy!!!

The rails and the facing on the Olhausen are softer and will spit balls out more. I'm sure the problem can be fixed.

Post this in the table mechanic section or PM RealKingCobra. He will be glad to help out.

The factory facings on your table are 1/8" inches thick, and they are soft. The cushions are soft. What happens is when you pocket a ball with medium speed but the ball comes in contact with the outer 50% of the cushion facing, it compresses the facing and cushion, thereby changing the deflection from deep into the pocket, to across the pocket into the opposing facing, causing the pocket to reject the balls. To fix that problem, the facings need to be changed to 3/16" neoprene facings, which because of the thickness, play stiffer, which means they won't absorb as much of the ball speed, and compress the facing and cushion, which means the ball will deflect deeper into the jaws of the pocket, instead of bouncing the ball across the pocket into the opposing pocket facing, therefor rejecting less balls. So, change the pocket facings, and yes, that means you'll have to change the cloth on the rails as well, then the table will play much better.

That sounds like a lot of work to do on a new table. I guess all Olhausen tables play that way, I'll just start trying to improve my aim. Thank you for your reply.
