Posters are always complaining about the lack of TV coverage for tournaments. But tournament format is not TV schedule friendly. This is what they do across the pond.

The Premier League features seven leading players with matches being held at venues all around the UK before the finals.

Premier League Snooker rules:

It is the world's only major snooker tournament played in a league format.

THE field consists of seven top stars and each plays the others once over the best of six frames, making a total of 21 matches. That's three matches at each venue, all televised live in the evening.

TWO points available for a win and a point for a 3-3 draw and following the round robin section of play, the top four players move forward to the big money play-offs.

TOTAL prize fund is ?250,000 and the money for the round-robin section is dished out on a 'frames won' basis with ?1,000 awarded for each frame won. In addition, there is a 'Double Your Money' bonus for a break of 100 or over of another ?1,000.

THE champion receives ?50,000, the runner-up takes home an additional ?25,000 and the beaten semi-finalists make an extra ?12,500 each.

A PLAYER has 25 seconds to complete each shot. Any shot that takes longer will result in a time penalty being awarded. A player will be allowed five time outs per match.

I've watched a few of the matches and the standard was incredible. In particular O'Sullivan versus Ding was amazing. Quality, quality stuff.

...and the 25 second shot clock is great. We all know there are a couple of pro snooker players that are known to take 2, 3, even 4 minutes to shoot (and then shoot the shot everyone knew they would shoot). From all the matches I saw, the players have adapted to the shot clock. Nobody botched any shots due to time pressure, at least not in any of the matches I saw.

Yeah, the Osullivan versus Ding match was the best match in the premiere legue so far this year imo. Robertson and Higgins don't seem to be coping to the shot clock too well.
