Maybe this should go in the NPR section, but I was taking some photos for insurance and thought I'd share this magnificient antique Italian inlaid table...ivory, shell and many fine woods into ebony. I inherited this from my mother about 20 years ago; she bought it at an antique shop in Germany in the mid 50's...was told it's 17th century Italian. Sorry its not pool related, but I hope lovers of fine inlay enjoy this.
:p

Takes my breath away !!!

rayja,

Now I see where you got your good taste from, Mom.

Man that table is unbelievable.

You sure Tony from Black Boar hasn't seen it?

Some of the inlays ( Flowers ) looks like he could have gotten inspired by them.

Just absolutely beautiful.

Now that's some art you could sit and stare at for hours on end.

I'm glad you got such a great gift from your Mom, she must have been a very special woman.

Well...........as they say, the apple dosen't fall far from the tree !!

Hope all is well, your friend Tommyd1 :wave3:

You're a kind man, Tommy, and you're right...my Mom was special to me just like everyone's is to them. And she did have good taste, except in men....
:p

We have some marquetry furniture also, and the pieces are something to behold. Yours is simply magnificent! It is nice that your took the time to share on the forum, you have a very rare and well done piece of work, and I know you will find enjoyment in having others see it here.

Thanks for sharing!

Will

That is certainly a beautiful Peice, I also am a fan of this type work.

wow thats great, really great. Were just all "Connisuers of gracious living" when we appericate the finer things in life.

I was sure some of you folks would appreciate this, thanks for your kind comments. I've enjoyed it since I was 10 years old!
:p

It is easy to see the era Longoni got their cue ideas from. That is a awesome piece.

That table is absolutely over the top.

Can you imagine the man hours that it took to create such a masterpiece.

We can only imagine. Back then there was nothing to do and no distractions. I always loved marquetry. I have some books on marquetry and have seen some amazing things with it. BTW the table is amazing, any idea of the value?

In a perfect world, anyone responsible for such beauty would be King. It's good to be King...You never have to say stuff like "I wish I had the money for that" or "Can I play" or "I never get laid" or "I'd like to party with Brittany Spears"...stuff like that.

Value? I don't know for sure at today's market. Back in '86, when the estate was valued, it was appraised around $25k. I have it insured for more than that, but who knows?

I was thinking well into the 5 digit range too. Furniture of the 1700/1800's commands big prices.

$25k doesnt seem like much for that. id deff get it appraised with todays value. esp if your insuring it.

BTW im sure fatboys pm'd offer was atleast double that. that guy buys everything:D :D :D

Must have missed FB's pm...:p Dave, it was appraised for that in '86...I'm ok on ins...

Unbelievable work! I bet seeing it up close just boggles the mind - particularly considering the time period in which it was made. Defines old world artistry.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
