what is a recut point???

im not a cuemaker
could someone explain and maybe show pics of what is a recut point and how do you tell the difference from"regular points" ???
does the recut point also require a difference on how the venneers are done??

The term recut means only that a point has been recut with another point. In stead of the point having a veneer, it is outlined by the larger point behind it.

This is a recut. The cocobolo point does not have a maple veneer. But rather the maple point was recut & a cocobolo point glued inside it.
 
You can also tell a recut vs veneer due to the miter line where the two peices come together. The recut will not have a miter line.

Correct unless the cue was a relatively new cue built by Dennis Searing... No miter line yet still veneers... I love recuts by the way... Especially Weston's work..
 
I was under the impression that Dennis used mainly recut points. Even though he calls them veneers they are still recut.

Not sure if he did his new veneer technique on this Orange Crush cue but In recent years he makes his veneers a different way than he used to. A lot of work go into them. There not recuts like the cues shown here...

It was posted before.
I've seen one up close in his shop.
Those are dyed recuts.
 
One piece seamless veneers I built many moons ago.
Wishing I still had some of this BRW. :frown:
