So, I'm in the poolhall yesterday playing with a new friend, and we're talking about old time players, and Rempe's name comes up. He says he's heard that Rempe is an orthodontist! After I got up off the floor laughing, I said "impossible". Rempe was a hustler and tournament player (albeit very good at both)...never an orthodontist. Been around pool for more than 40 years...but never heard that one before! LOL Anyone here heard anything like that about Scranton Jimmy?

It's true. Jimmy straightened a lot of people's bites.

Yep

Jimmy was a member of Mensa and graduated from Harvard Medical school at the age of twelve. He promptly gave up the medical profession and went on the road at age thirteen hustling pool.

How you doing Scott!!! :rotflmao1:

Frank

Jim Rempe grew out his afro so he could start hustling on the set of Soul Train.
He told the dancers he ran a bonsai and incense shop in Bakersfield.

He may very well be much better at extracting money from other peoples pockets than teeth, or it may have felt like getting his money from people was like Pulling Teeth but I doubt it, altho I have no real idea.

People can really fool you at times and the most unlikely characters can surprise you.
Never judge a book by its cover.

I would think that the money in orthodontics is much better than playing pool.

Altho, Doc Holiday was a Dentist, wasn't he.

Now, this is actually true. He became a proctologist, but quit to play pool professionally.

Word is he just couldn't deal with all the assholes.

Jim Rempe didn't come from Scranton, Scranton came from Jim Rempe....

Wow, there really needs to be a "true facts" video for this guy haha

I believe that you are thinking of Doogie Howser, MD.

Besides, its not Mensa, its Menza. According to Coco Cowboy anyway. Maybe Menza is the Jewish side of it. Matzo, I have no idea.

Rempe little known facts

Fear of spiders is aracnaphobia, fear of tight spaces is chlaustraphobia, fear of Jimmy Rempe is called Logic

Rempe can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.

In the 70's Jimmy destroyed the periodic table, because Jimmy only recognizes the element of surprise.

In 1983 Jimmy won the World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO
