And he comes in ready to play.

I just got an email from Erofey Evladin wanting to be included on my list of case makers. I went and checked out his stuff and it totally rocks.

Don't know what they are smoking in Russia but it's good stuff judging by the art this guy produces. He seems to have the embossing techniques down pretty well. Something I am still toying with.

I have no idea how the quality is, how well they protect, how much they cost, or anything other than they are original and cool. You owe it to yourself to look just for the eye candy. If anyone finds out his prices please let us know.

Definitely on my list of cases I want to own some day.

Those are just spectacular!! Among the most innovative and truly beautiful I've seen. Thank you John.

Great looking cases but the Flame job is still a head turner.
My first Harley had flames on it so I've always been partial.

Thanks for the posting John. His cases are stunning! I really like #23, it looks like it's made from a dragon's hide. Amazing tooling work and it looks like he's using some nice hardware.

price

I did send this guy an e-mail in order to inquire about his prices. I asked him about the price of case #8 and he said it costs $230 plus shipping - that would be an extra $170 to Hungary but that's with FedEx. I guess he could get a cheaper shipping option as well.

Perhaps I'll ask him a bit more about his workmanship, used materials, available sizes, etc.

What do you guys think?

Well

Well, I think its an OK price, but just starting out he needs to give a few away!

I like the classic one #29...someone find out what the price on that one is and the shipping cost to the USA....always go with guaranteed and insured shipping, even if it costs more

shipping to USA should be ca. 100$ or better ask Dmitry Komarov (DBK), he has already shipped his cues.

I really wish there were interior pics of these cases. They can be as gorgeous as the day is long, but if the interior protection isn't there, it's useless to me.

As John has often pointed out...it's what's going on on the inside that matters most, with regards to safe and secure cue storage. The rest is just aesthetics.

With that said...the maker does have a terrific sense of the aesthetic, and the quality of the leatherwork is stunning!! :yeah:

I would like to add that I have just sent Erofey an email, not only requesting pricing on a few of the cases, but also requesting some interior photos as well. If he grants me permission to do so, I will post them here.

I also suggested to Erofey that including the configurations of the cases featured on the web site would be most helpful, and that a couple of interior photos would go a long way to help him with potential sales.

Lastly, I would just like to send out a big Thank You! to John Barton for providing us with this link to these amazing looking cases. I have to have a great deal of respect for a case maker who has the utmost confidence in his own product, that he would bring attention to another case maker's work for us to admire.

hey

Lisa, ask about that case for me please?

Just like Lisa, I sent an e-mail to Erofey. I was given a price of $460.00 shipped and insured via DHL. The case I asked about was number 16, the exact case that John posted the picture of to start this thread. I asked for pictures of the case from all sides and of the interior, plus the number of butts and shafts it will accomodate. When I receive a reply, I'll post what I find out.

Chris

PS A very sincere thank you to John Barton for bringing these cases to the attention of the AZB community.

Chris, I requested info on case #16 as well. Did he happen to mention the configuration of that particular case? 2x4 or 3x6 perhaps?

I think the pricing on that case in well within reason, given that a decent portion of that pricing is including the shipping costs from Russia. It's a lot of case for the money, given the amount of work he has obviously put into it.

I will let you all know what I find out once I hear back from him.

I did get an reply to my email from Erofey. Here is the email received from him:

Hello Lisa,

Thank you very much for your warm words and interest to my works.
The price for #10 - 220$
#16 -270$
#25 - 250$
shipping costs are not inluded.

>> Also, can you tell me what the configuration of the
>> cases are, ie; 1 butt 2 shaft, 2 butts 4 shafts, etc?
The configuration can be various depending
on individual order. It takes me usually about (3-4) days to make a case. Delivery time is about 3-5
business days with FedEx.

All my cases inside are made very thoroughly for
best protection of the cues. The inside hard tubes made of the thin
cardboard, covered with soft thermal insulation cloth.

Unfortunately at present I cannot make the photos of interior parts of the cases as
the cases have been already sold. I have attached some photos of the
cases' interiors taken from the websites of other craftsmen, the
interiors of their cases are very close to mine.

You're quite right that it can be very important
for potential buyers. Thank you so much for these hints.
I'll take it into account when will be making the next cases.

I'll be very proud of having my works displayed on this Forum, thank
you! When I have photos of my own cases' interiors I'll also send them to
you.

If you have any questions please contact me at erofey@arthit.ru
Best Regards,
Erofey

The pics he included from the 'other' craftsmen appears to be that of a Justis Pro-Lite interior and that of what appears to be one of John Barton's interiors. Could be both interiors of John's cases, not sure, but you get the general idea. As soon as I do receive new pics of Erofey's interiors, I will post them up.

Hope some of this info helps.

"The inside hard tubes made of the thin
cardboard, covered with soft thermal insulation cloth. "

I'm not real thrilled with the idea of thin cardboard sleeves. I think maybe he should consider switching to lightweight plastic such as has been used for years by other case makers. Or.. maybe I"m not on the inside track of what other case makers have been using? Does anybody use cardboard?

It's hard to know what he means by "thin cardboard." One of the factories I deal with here insists on saying that their interiors are made with "steel tubes" when they use plastic tubes.

The company that now makes Instroke Cue Cases, Ching Emblem Woodcase Corp. in Taiwan was tasked with copying Porper cases about 20 years ago. Until that point all that they had made were wooden box cases - the cheap kind. So they did what they knew and fashioned a wooden exterior box in the shape of a Porper square case. Then they used cardboard tubes for the cavities. Needless to say these contraptions didn't fare too well.

I am sure that sooner or later someone will end up with one of these cases and report on the interior protection. I do want to say that if the exterior structure is fairly sound and the interior structure is fairly well padded then it's probably better than the semi-hard butterfly cases that sandwich the cues between layers of leather, cardboard, foam rubber, and liner.

I was also emailed the pricing. It's pretty good prices for the work as far as I can see from the pix. Delving deeper I think that the artist is a handbag maker turned cue case maker. I might need to buy some of these and retrofit them with JB interiors and resell them for 5x the price. (just kidding)

It's my pleasure to bring you all this art. Before I became a case maker I was in awe of people like Jay Flowers, Joe Porper, It's George. I also was in awe of cue makers and their art. And in fact I still am in awe of both of those crafts and the art that comes out.

People like Erofey remind me that true originality exists. When I started I tried to be really original. Then we went to mass production and those original pieces faded away. Now I am back and trying to do original pieces again. But still some of my stuff has elements of what has gone before. These cases are a breath of fresh air and the push me to continue to go beyond where I am at.

Like I said in another post - there is plenty of business out there for all of us. Easily 95% of the people who play pool regularly and own their own cue couldn't name 3 custom cue makers and probably not 1 custom case maker. So there is plenty of opportunity for individual case makers to gain customers that are not at the expense of other case makers. If the market can support hundreds of cue makers then it can support ten case makers.

I don't know how many cases Erofey can make a year but I can't make more than 50 at this time and there are well more than 50 orders/projects/quotes on my plate. So I am happy to send folks his way and towards other high class case makers. They'll be back. :-)
