I read so much about OB-1 shaft that this shaft have a very nice hit. I have talked with Royce and I'm still waiting for them. I guess I could not wait...
the question is anybody plays and compared both?
will modification on the wood ferrule affects the way shaft hit?
why OB-1 have a better "hit" than predator altaugh the deflection rating is very similar?
I know Varney has worke with both shaft, what is you opinion on this?
 
Heres an upgraded OB-1 with Saber T & Sniper. My friend plays exclusively with a factory QB-1. He played one set with this shaft...bought it...andleft me his other to race up as well.;)

My Mezz came stock with a 314 and it hit very nice. But the OB-1 is a far better performing shaft IMHO. I can produce more spin and control it better with the OB-1. And there is very little adjustment to be made for aim especially with two diamonds. it takes some time to adjust, but once you get in good with it there is really no going back.

Imagine the difference in performance between a regular maple shaft and a 314. It's like experiencing the same change in performance when you move to the 0B-1.
 
As asked for...my opinion is that while the OB-1 is low deflection...its still not quite a non deflecting as the 314...very close though. They do have a soft hit which many like. They can definately stand a ferrule upgrade to say Saber T as the one pictured above.;) I don't want to create Royce any headaches, he's as super gentleman. So I will not post a close up showing the inside of a cut off factory OB-1 ferrule. Just trust me when I say the wood rings are VERY thin...the ferrule upgrade is the FIRST thing I'd do to a new OB-1...plus I'm old school. I prefer my ferrules white...especially when there is no advantage to the wood ring ferrule...only possible future problems. When I replace a ferrule for a customer..you get a lifetime warranty against breaking/cracking....no questions asked...I'll be glad to replace one for free, should anyone ever have an issue.;)

I'm sure you are very excited & happy with your new OB-1 and thats fantastic. But your statement thats its "far better preforming" than a 314...is simply not true. Not even close. If you're happy great...spread the good news...but don't make an untrue statement. Too many others on this board know better...it hurts your future credibility.;)

You're ready to go to the Pacific and train some of them how to hammer-on slip-on lipstick tubing ferrules for my uncle's factory. Make sure they keep a tolerance of a quarter of an inch, ok?:D
We don't want any glue lines so use the invisible glue.:D

Nice flush Sniper tip install too. Spit treatment on the outside. :)

Now you have me thinking ... How much to replace a ferrule and install a Sniper tip? (No shipping--I'll bring it to you.)
 
i bought an ob-1 and i also have a zshaft and i have to say I can get alot more english on the ball with the ob-1. I didnt get alot of time with the shaft to test out deflection, i originally ordered a 30 inch shaft, decided I wanted it cut down to 29 and sent it back to royce to have it done. That was 3 months ago and for some reason I still havent received it. Ive contacted him 3 times and everytime he tells me hes been super busy but he will be caught up and get to it by the end of the week and send me a shipping confirm, but so far still nothing. Im going to give him a little more time and if nothing happens Im just going to ask for it to be shipped back and let kevin work his magic on it........honestly I wasnt crazy about the wood ferrule either, white catches my eye and the light better.
 
kevin I have also sent you 2 pm's when I was heading to Charlotte and no reply. Are you available to do some work on shaft tapers ??

And what would your source be? I don't mean to be rude but I think that something lke is very difficult to be subjective. People will have opinions going both ways on this. I happen to be of the opinion that the OB-1 performs better.

I happen to think that it's very hard to establish a degree of truth to something like this since topics of the like are heavily weighted with opinion.. Perhaps I should have been more clear that I was stating an opinion but for me that was not an untrue statement.

Kevin, it seems like I'm diagreeing with you AGAIN but your "upgraded" OB-1 shaft with saber-t ferrule and sniper is subjective ("modified" is probably better terminology) as well as your opinion on 314 vs OB-1 as "simply not true". This is subjective as well.

In my opinion, OB-1 does perform better than 314 ... for me. It gives me better feel and I can move the balls better with it. I know, I know ... my credibility was already shot before this post ... :eek:
