The other night I got to the table with 2 balls left-1 in the top corner pocket, the other under the rack, say 3" off the rail. cueball was in the kitchen. I called safe and thinned the ball in and ran the cueball back
to pocket the hanger. Thought I had really done something! Took a brief
moment to think about the rules and realized..would only spot the 2 balls,
not a whole rack as I had intended!
Still was a fair safety but realized the correct play was -thin the ball in,rack the balls THEN call safe and pocket the hanger. Was a neat learning experiance that I will be able to laugh at for a long time.

I'm gonna pretend I'm Stu and ask, "Are you sure pocketing the hanger and then calling safe would be the correct play?"

I may be overly aggressive, but I usually try to break with balls in/near the head pockets if that's all there is. One good path is to hit the ball, go to the head rail right by the ball with outside english and then to the side cushion just above the side pocket. It's a safe angle into the rack.

Me, too. Nothing too terrible can happen here. You might scratch into a pocket or miss the pack completely but, in either of these cases, you'll still have a realistic chance to win the ensuing safety battle. And, of course, the upside is huge if you can keep the run going.

I read this post and thought it would be difficult to hit the rack.
Next day tried and only way I could hit the stack was head rail-far long
rail-bottom rail.
Break ball was in corner pocket.
Maybe newer cloth and clean balls would make the 2rail more doable
Thank to all,Jack
