Once again we will be doing the One Pocket Challenge at Derby City. Like last year we will be asking for donations from AZ'ers. All the details will be in the Derby City section on here.

What did Gabe run 60? last year. I'd like to make a small prop bet that his score isnt beat this year, I would even lay a small price on that. I dont want to bet alot on this but I think it would make for a fun small sweat bet.

Get a camera on that box!!! I have a camera and tri-pod that I will loan to the right person this year to put over some table for something this year, It is not much work to record some awesome stuff. So i'm willing to loan it to the right person to use, I'm doing my part to make the Derby the best it can be. Everyone should think the same way 'What can I do to make it better?" not "Whats in it for me?". ITS TIME TO GIVE NOT TAKE!! buit not be a stone sucker either

The One Pocket Challenge will take place on Jan. 27-29. It will be held in the AZ/One Pocket room. Once again we are asking for donations to the added money. Last year we raised $1,000 in added money through our efforts on AZ and OnePocket.org. So far this year we have raised only $500. If you would like to contribute to the success of this event, please either contact me or Steve Booth.

THANK YOU

Contributors so far:
Jay Helfert $100
Steve Booth $100
Greg Sullivan $100
Mark Griffin $100
Deadon $100
Shooterville.com $100

Anybody else like to make a donation to a good cause and a fun event, that will be held in the AZ room. This money will all go to the added money for the One Pocket Challenge. Just post on here and we'll add your name to the list. If you're not coming to DCC, you can still donate via Paypal. Thanks!

That 1 pocket challenge really interests me. I won't be there at DCC, but I'll gladly fork over the going price for whatever form of media coverage results (dvd, ppv, etc.)

First day results - Mika shoots a 53 (5,13,15,15,5). Two perfect racks back to back. Next highest score is Corey's 38.

Final results - Mika wins with his 53, He also shot a 50 today, to tie for second with Darren Appleton. Efren was brought upstairs by Roy Steffensen and immediately shot a 44 and a 47 (which got him thrid place money). When you watch Efren run balls at One Pocket, you realize you are watching a genius at work. He just looks and plays different than anyone else. I get the sense that if he plays a few times, he will break Gabe's 60.

There were a total of thirteen perfect 15's shot in the two days of play. Twenty four players participated, for a total purse of $2,000 ($800 was added money). Mika won $1,300; $800 for first place and $500 more by tying Darren for second. Darren won $500 and Efren got $200 for fourth.

Don't tell anyone but I won $50 from Roy.
He said someone would beat Mika's 53, and I said that would be the winning score. Roy expected Efren to do it, and he might have if he tried again.

Jay, being a novice at one pocket, what were the rules of the challenge? Thanks.

I believe the rules are break the balls and begin running balls into the same corner pocket. The inning is over when you fail to pocket a ball in your pocket. Five innings per set and I think one entry fee gets you three sets.

There was and may still be a video of Alan Hopkins on azbtv doing this.

I just wanted to thank Samiel from AZ for helping me out yesterday with the One Pocket Challenge. It went all day from Noon to Midnite and I had to take a break for some rest about 7PM. He hung in and kept score and watched for over an hour until I got back. Thanks!

John Schmidt just played Danny Harriman in the Straight Pool Challenge. It was the semis, with the winner playing the winner between Hohmann and Appleton tomorrow. No one wanted to referee this match, so naturally I volunteered. My main job was to count balls, and keep them apart.

They only had words once, and that was briefly. You can tell there is no love lost here, but they both respect each other's ability. Danny had a high run of 56 and beat John 100-31. After the match, John shook Danny's hand and said, "Win one for the home team." (meaning USA). I thought that was classy of him.

I was happy to help out Jay! :p

I believe the best pool I saw at the DCC was at this challenge. Getting to see Efren play the challenge was definitely the highlight of my DCC trip! I was also very impressed at Mika's and Darren's overall ability. Darren also has a great personality! :p

I've watched Darren progress so rapidly in the last 2-3 years that it is simply "Dazzling" to say the least. He has become a world class pool player, competing on the highest level with the games greatest players. To come in there cold, never having played the game before and shoot a 50 was mind blowing.

Of course what would you expect from the World Ten Ball Champion. I'll say it again, his match with Wu for the championship is an all time classic! I hope this one is not lost to the archives. Please someone record this one while you can.

To top it off Darren is a world class guy too, friendly and accommodating to everyone he encounters. The pool world is blessed to have him.

Cheers mate.
